Follow the directions on the bag for the dog's age/weight. I know he is fluffy but you should be able to feel his ribs. This holds true for his whole life. Your vet will be able to tell you if he starts to get overweight.
Feed him a good quality food. The best you can afford. We feed our dogs dry food. Dry food helps keep their teeth clean.
Your vet or someone at you local pet store should be able help you more.

Feed as directed according to the food you are feeding. Divide that amount between 2, preferably three feedings. Fresh water all day long and for potty training purposes you can pick that up after 7p, just giving the dog some water on occasion if he plays a lot and starts panting after 7.
Royal Canin has a great tiny kibble for tiny pups called "Baby Dog" the ingredients are great and the bag tells you how much to feed. If whatever you feed your dog does not seem to meet his needs, ask your Vet about feeding more.

Is he eating the 1/2 cup, and his body weight looking good? If so, you're doing great.
But, you might want to think about leaving the water bowl out, and just putting some water in it when he goes up to it. Puppies can get very thirsty playing, and may need to have water more frequently than twice a day.

what did the vet say? until they are 6 mths old, you need to feed them 3 times a day, about a third cup each time, because they are growing. that's what my vet said (i have a mini dach). make sure they have plenty of water. we have a feeder that has fresh water at all times. as he drinks, more goes into the bowl. don't limit that, they will limit themselves.
are you crate training him? that's the best way to house break any dog. buy a crate that will fit him as he gets bigger, but is not big enough that he can run around in. puppies will not poop/pee where they sleep. it might seem mean, but it teaches them the right way. put him in the crate WHENEVER you are out of the house. as soon as you come home, take him outside. don't pay him too much attention, or he will pee all over you before he can get outside. praise him whenever he goes potty outside, never smack him if he does it in the crate (he knows). be patient, and it'll work. mine learned in a few weeks, and dachs are stubborn little buggers!
talk to your vet about your breed. don't buy the science diet crap, it's not that good for dogs. make sure that you feed it dry food only (better for the teeth), and lots of water. take him out after eating, playing, napping, etc. the best food is one with meat in the 1st ingredient, and no corn in the first 3 ingredients. watch out for corn syrup and byproducts too.
have fun! play with him a lot. they become like your child sooner or later.

Read the guidelines on the food bag (I hope it's a good food and not Pedigree or Iams or Dog Chow, those are terrible foods and your dog will benefit greatly from a higher quality food especially as he grows).
Water needs to be available to the pup 24/7.
