What you describe has similarities to what I believe, except that I view the laws of physics and nature as "god" itself. There is no humanish kind of being at the source; everything comes down to the balance, beauty and laws of the Cosmos: this is the source of everything and everyone who ever was, who is, and ever will be. It is not about "creation". It is about transformation. What is now always has been and always will be, in one form or another, or another. I know there is an afterlife, because we are not created or destroyed; like the Cosmos, we simply are.

I would say it is not atheism because they believe there is NO god or God of any kind. No creator, straight big bang and evolution. Not agnostic because they believe there might be a god, God, or creator...but they aren't sure and they do not know who is right about it. Only intellegent design a little because you believe someone created the beginings of the world and allowed it to evolve, not in a being who designed everything we see today. Someone who created the butterfly and placed the designs on its wings. You are what most people are before they become a believer. You see the greatness of things around you, but you have been indoctrinated to believe evolution because that is all you were ever intellegently taught.
One thing you need to consider about what you wrote is that we believe different things because we weren't yet good at science. My contention is, we are not yet good enough at science. Most of what is being taught as fact is theory. Much like it was once taught factually that the world is flat.
I would say keep asking questions, keep searching, keep learning, and keep your mind open.
Good Luck.

First off I'm Catholic, so this may not be what you want to hear.
Now that I've warned you, here I go:
I don't want to sound arrogant or something, but you honestly sound confused. What you have said has no scientific or theological background, you don't claim to have had a revelation, and you also don't seem to have a reason for believing the way you do. I pretty much know what I think on most matters (being Catholic tends to do that to you), but even I have cloudy parts that confuse me. If you are looking for confirmation of your beliefs I think you've come to the wrong place. In all of my ponderings, I have found that there are very few things that Catholicism cannot adequatley explain (I'm sure many other chueches can explain these things too), such as creation, morality, and the existeence of souls.
God hasn't forgot about us! If you think bad things happening in the world are examples of God not caring, you're wrong. This world is a proving ground, sorta like the 'crappy gold being tested in fire' analogy. Also, the devil (That's right, I said it) can influence this world to an extent, causing ruckus and stuff that no one wants (I could also go into deals between God and the Devil and the origins of that whole question, but thats not for now)
In conclusion, I would say you are looking for the right stuff in all the wrong places. You would be a product of an independent religous thought. I would really suggest that you look into a church and search the web to try and find an answer that you can believe in. That way everyone wins.

You believe there is a higher power, which would rule out Atheism.
You do not believe that the higher power had a part in crafting everything in the universe aside from the initial "big bang", which would (to my mind) rule out Intelligent Design.
Of the three choices you offered, Agnosticism would probably be the best label. However, I don't know if that would be entirely accurate.
I would echo the idea of looking into Deism, though I think they have a belief in an afterlife and that the higher power drives morality.

I would have to say you lean toward being agnostic, however, having one or many concurrent theories/beliefs about the reason for existence is a great attribute. It shows depth of thought and a certain cognitive ability that is sadly lacking in most people throughout the world. Even worse, is when people, such as many of the responders here, are so bothered and threatened by another indiviual's thoughts (and apparently so weak in their own thoughts and beliefs) they must insult them and tell them they are wrong with answering the actual question. BTW he didn't ask for you arguement about why he should believe in what you believe in; it is conceeded to attempt to do this.

I can recognize a mind that is on a quest to reconcile its existence and, unlike most of the people who post questions on this site, is actually capable of doing so, What is clearly lacking are some tools of knowledge. Please take some time to study cosmology and relativity, especially as it relates to time. You'll soon no longer have to deal with irreconcilable concepts like "forever" and magical beings outside the universe. At the end of your quest I predict you'll be satisfied with your grasp of reality and any further thought of magical beings will be unresolvable complications. You've still got some long sleepless nights of reality crunching ahead of you but with the right data to work with you will get there. Good luck.
ps my short answer would have been a qualified intelligent design.

Shamus,
You are describing agnostic doctrine in that God is so far above man that man cannot know God or even verify that God exists.
If this is what you really believe then I recommend that you make an attempt to define some of your truth assumtions that are not stated yet have to be in place in order for this belief system to exist.
What is dangerous about the truth assumptions that are not stated is that they are accepted without evidence, proof or the veracity of the assumptions in order for this belief to work.

I think you need to do some more thinking and studying. You seem kind of in the middle of you don't have a clue than any of the choices. I can't say agnostic because you beleive in something. As a christian I would have to say try to get to know jesus. he lives he is here he is with me every day and he is with you too. You just have to listen to him. Than you will have no doubt about what you are.
