The most common black dog is the Labrador Retriever. Labs usually have short hair. A Curly Coat Retriever has longer hair and some of them are black. There are also some black Spaniels. A Water Spaniel has longer black hair than a Lab.

Well there are various breeds that are black. First the Black Lab. Very good disposition, and great with kids. Second, you can find all black border Collies and Great Danes. There are also affenspinscher and the Dachsunds(the "hot dogs"). Also, I forgot to say that most rescue dogs are black, so I advise you to rescue a dog!

Black is a color not a breed. Some Labs, Chows, Pugs, lots of mixes, German Shepherds, Newfoundlands, Bouvier des Flanders, Schnauzers, Poodles, Chihuahuas, etc, etc are black. Even some Schipperke's are other colors than black but then they can't be show dogs most places.

some schnauzers, some chows, labrador, some sheperds, licorice black scottish terrier, rottweiler (although he has some brown. Depending on what you want him for would depend on the specific breed. These few that I mentioned are highly different in characters, and jobs, so you really need to check their history.
