Yes. We have an 8 month old shih-tzu and she loves to play. She especially loves pull-on toys. We hold one end, she holds the other and she pulls on it. We've taught her to growl so here's this little thing growling and pulling. So cute.

But she's very affectionate. Any growls coming from her are definitely 'playing' sounds. She loves to play with raw hide bones and she is great with our 6 year old grandson.

If you want a dog with a good attitude, you should get a shih-tzu. They don't need a large yard to play in and as long as you treat them like one of the family, you will have a devoted friend.

This depends a GREAT DEAL on the individual dog. they are normally a delight to have around, provided they have never been abused or neglected. Just like any other dog.

Normal disposition for a shih-tzu would be playful and happy. Some are easy going, others are a bit more wired.
