From the 1930's through the 1960's, tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies were considered routine surgeries. At that time, the tonsils and adenoids were thought to be useless organs, because their function was not understood, and because they often melt away after childhood. In the late '60's we discovered that the tonsils and adenoids play an important role in the immune system. Once this was understood, the practice of routine tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy declined.

Got to love it when they remove a part because it is doing the job it is there for. Its part of your immune system that keeps that crap from getting further into your system.

Is it leading to ear infections? Difficulty breathing? It is hardly routine like some posters say.

I just had my tonsils removed (I am 20 years old) and I was super nervous about it. The surgery went perfectly- it is pretty standard and I got to eat ice cream for a week (yay!).

There is nothing to worry about kids as little as 5 get their tonsils removed and are healthy afterwards. The only thing is that it is really painful after the operation if you try and speak, but again that is what ice cream is for.

I've been there. A bad sore throat, lots of ice cream, relax for a few days and then get on with your life. The sore throat is worst part of it but ice cream sooths it a bunch, lots and lots and lots of ice cream.

Seriously, compared to the misery I suffered before the surgery, recovery was a piece of cake. If mine grew back I would have the surgery again in a second. It really is OK to be scared, you are going to do something you have not done before but, in all honesty, your fears are not necessary...

Good luck and have a bowl for me. I'm diabetic and the Dr. says ice cream is a no-no for me or I would join you.

They have been removing tonsils since the beginning of time. No big deal. You have had a lot of sore throats this year....your throat will be sore after the operation but it will get less sore every day. It is easy and you get to eat ice cream for a few days.

Enjoy the ice cream. The only pain you should feel is they intorduce an IV catheter into your vein. Its nothing more then a needle prick like a shot. Once its in, there is little to no discomfort. From there, they can put you to sleep for the surgery, give you pain medication and antibiotics. As far as post operative pain is concerned. A lot depends on the surgery and your anatomy itself. Its a fairly simple surgery and one of the best ways to keep the pain and swelling down is to eat ice cream. Good luck...I hope all goes well. Don't forget to stock up your freezer.

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

just relax, maybe if you eat ice cream that would help. and just think after you have your tonsils removed. you won't have strep throat anymore. but think back of the pain you have with them and think how that pain is gonna go away. keep your self busy so you don't have time to think about it. everything will turn out okay.

confident, it particularly is achieveable to get strep after having tonsils bumped off. My son had his tonsils bumped off final year and his ENT mentioned that he nonetheless had a 10% possibility of having strep with the tonsils bumped off.

Make sure you have someone to assist you the first couple of days. Those can be kind of tough. But then it is just a matter of healing and following the doctors instructions. Dont try to overdo it. Rest, rest, rest.
Good luck
