People do this because they have lost the art of full fat, dripping with grease yet still crispy, bacon. They then need the sauce so that the sandwich doesn't taste dry. The 'low fat' movement has a lot to answer for but I say that we do not let it kill the bacon sandwich!!
But, ick, you want a real horror story: a vegetarian friend of mine makes them with fake bacon, crispy lettuce, and fat free vegetarian mayo.
ODE TO A BACON BUTTY
Oh lumpcious slice of piggy rump
Thin cut with loving care
Oh blood red meat and fatty rhind
Devoid of piggy hair
In gammon form or bacon joint
Or pork chop thick and lean
Dried or boiled or cured in smoke
Such beauty have i seen
The butchers art is so employed
To slice you thin and fair
Your sold by slice or poundage weight
I really just don't care
For when i get you home my sweet
With lard and frying pan
Then such a feast you'll make for me
I'll be a happy man
The pan sits ready on the stove
I'll slip you from my hand
Now in you go to sizzle sweet
And juice my taste bud gland
Oh dance my precious in the pan
Please shrink and crinkle fast
Firm up your crispy rhind my love
My taste buds want your blast
The breads awaiting on the plate
To take the fried delight
The sauce stands eager in arms reach
To drape your scrumptious might
And now the moment waited for
My tongue does crest my teeth
A tear of sauce runs down my chin
My stomach groans beneath
A moment on the lips they say
A lifetime on the hips
But i care not for balderdash
So one more please with chips
Oh glorious pig, oh juicy sow
For you i am but putty
So splendid is your generous rump
Whence comes my bacon butty

You've got to be kidding mate? a bacon sarnie is incomplete without a big dollop of ketchup. Tsk you'll be telling us next that you dont like Cheese and marmite toasties!
With you on the porridge though, putting sugar in is just wrong.

Bacon sarnies without tomato ketchup or brown sauce is tasteless!! and salt in porridge is like making it all with water. Its like eating meat with no gravy!!!

A bacon sarnie wouldn't be fit for consumption without brown sauce.

Agreed, especially if you use good quality bacon. Also, porridge should be served with salt.
