A pound is 16 oz, so if you are measuring in cups, two cups (8 oz each) would be a pound.

Most of these answers are confusing fluid ounces with an ounce of weight. It all depends on what you're measuring as to how many cups will make a pound of it.

If you're speaking specifically about cups of water, then yes, 2 cups of water will weigh 1 lb... but only because a fluid ounce of water weighs one ounce.

Everyone's answers so far have been correct, but no one has given you the complete answer.

2 cups, or 1 pint, equals 16 fluid ounces.

A fluid ounce is a measurement of volume, not of weight.

A fluid ounce (volume) of water equals an ounce (weight).

So 16 fluid ounces of water (2 cups) = 1 pound

But 16 fluid ounces of any other liquid will weigh more or less than a pound, depending on the density of the fluid.

1 cup = 8 oz.
2 cups = 16 oz = 1 lb.

A saying my mother taught me long ago helps me remember such things: A pint is a pound, the world around.

16 oz. = a pint
1 pint = 1 lb.
Hope this helps!

It depends on what ingredient you're talking about since pounds are a unit of weight and cups are a unit of volume. Two cups of marshmallows, for example, weigh less than two cups of chocolate. You should get a kitchen scale, they have them at wal-mart for less than ten dollars
