My 3 year old daughter picks the skin around one of her fingernails when she sits on the toilet, or when she is in timeout. Sometimes she'll pick this one finger to the point of bleeding and then begs for a bandaid. She just started biting the same place recently. Could this be boredom or something to pass the time while we make her go to the bathroom or something else? How can I get her to quit. I just tell her to stop picking her finger. She stops for the time, but then she is picking again the next time she sits down.

-make her have gloves or mittens on at all times
-wrap a bandaid or tape around all her fingers so that she can't touch them, and if she takes of the tape, she's in big doo doo
- bribe her (promise her a treat if her fingers heal by the end of the week or something)
- just let it wear off. As she gets older, I guess she'll realize that damaged fingers look ugly.

she's only 3. so in my eyes there must be something about thet finger to make her always go to it. maybe there is a tiny sliver in there or something. i would think that the kid would forget about it, or pick any finger, not the same one always. so i think maybe it's hurting her or something. take her to the doc, or next time you go have them look at it and make sure that there is nothing wrong with it. maybe you taking her seriously and getting her to talk to the doc will make her feel better. knwo what i mean? hope everything works out with the little finger lol :)
