Sucrose, the regular sugar, in regular coke weighs more (342.3 grams per mole) than the aspartame, the artificial sweetener, in diet coke (292.3 grams per mole). If you're not familiar with this chemistry thing at all, basically the higher the number for one mole of a compound the heavier =).

The sugar in a regular Coke has a mass of about 30-40 grams or so. The artificial sweetener in a Diet Coke has a very small mass, maybe a gram or two at most. When comparing the same mass, an artificial sweetener is many, many times sweeter than sugar.
