Did anyone see this in the UK on channel 4 about half an hour ago?

If so, what did you think of it?

To be honest, I thought that to any logical minded human being watching, with even the smallest grasp of scientific theories and the basics of phsycho-the-ology, this programme has only worked to improve the image of atheism and to make more people question their beliefs.

There's another one on More4 on Wednesday where a woman in America goes and lives with a born again family for 30 days. Apparently the mother of the family ends up changing her world view and her husband isn't happy having spent the last 30 days being as intolerant as possible. Ho hum!

Looks like interesting viewing, whatever your beliefs.

Basically it was a bunch of dingo's kidneys.

(And that's just the camerawork!)

If you knew your theology, and your science, and you were alert to mis-statements and "straw man" arguments you could pick your way through it, and find some useful nuggets. Otherwise it was just a mess.

Describing the Fermilab building as "A temple to science" will do as an example as what was slipped in.

And Rod Liddle's final rhetorical question would get short shrift here, from atheists and theists alike. It does make a rather fundamental difference to the nature of the universe, whether or not there's a creator god involved in it.
And there's not room for both sides to be right, even if there are very good grounds for each side being socially tolerant of the other.

More details on request, if I can recall the programme well enough.

I would have been interested to see it, but there was one phrase in the little blurb that caught my attention. It compared atheism to fundamentalism with dogma etc. I'm not sure why they want to show the similarities between the thing they reject and the thing they defend. I guess in one case it's good and in the other it's bad. Beats the hell out of me why.

Did you see Channel 4's other documentary about all the negative effects of religion called.... The Root of All Evil.

No, I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait for YouTube on this one.

We don't get such cool specials here in the states.

I did not see it, but I'd be interested in seeing links or a recap.

Yeah, with all that violence in the name of atheism that's going on in the world...

No but I'd like to. Is it going to be repeated? (On More4, perhaps?)
