There are many reasons that a dog may stare at you. Some dogs may be trainined to give theur full attention to their owner taking all commands from them, others like herding breeds will stare to keep yopu in place, like they would sheep, or other herd animals, some people think that stareing is a dominant behavior. though it could be a food begging behavior, or many other things. your question does not give enough information for a determination if the staring you are experiencing is normal or not.

Usually only if they are dominant- stare back and do not break the stare contest first- be warned- your dog may try to attack you if you have let them be dominant too long. If you are dominant, your dogs eyes should slip away from your gaze after only a second or two. The longer they keep staring, the more dominant they are.

Yes. If you know the dog and it's a passive one, it's fine. If you don't, or it's an aggressive dog, don't stare back at it (may be understood as a challenge), and I'd watch any quick movements. He's sizing you up, and if you give him reason, he'll take you down!!

My dog stares at me for a long time sometimes and it's so precious! Then other times I can't get him to look at me at all, he's just fickle and arrogant like that! He's a shih tzu! I think it's adorable. I would give anything to know what they are thinking!

Yes. I have had 2 dogs that have done that.

I would give anything to know what they are thinking while they're staring at us.

lol, yes they love to stare. Especially when you are eating. Its good to stare!

However, if it is constant- following- you- around- without- a- noise staring, maybe you have a problem....
