The best way to do a Renewal of Vows is to have a party at your house. This can be small or large depending on the amount of guests and the style of party. Maybe just do finger foods. Always remember that a wedding you need to feed and entertain according to the type of gift you are going to receive. I know this sounds strange but it is norm. But a renewal of vows, there is usually no normal gift requirement. Also to avoid this gift giving question, ask on invites that none be given or for guests to donate to a favorite charity instead.

Aww, how sweet. I through a surprise 20th anniversary party for my mom. First things first, find a justice of the peace. Always ask what she plans on doing, what's she going to say, etc....I hired one and she told my parents best of luck and walked out! Anyway, I had the party at our house. I cleared out the living room and set up chairs, kinda of like a wedding with an aisle and everything. We had flowers around and stuff. Then, we had it catered. Basically, it was simple yet a beautiful ceremony.
So maybe try having it done at your house, or even rent a hall for it. Invite only your closests friends and family. Which, you can all ask them to make something and bring it instead of having it catered.

Celebrate your 10th anniversary in Vegas. Then go to one of the many wedding chapels there and renew your vows. They are use to it, people do it all the time there.

Wow, it must have been such a trial to live with you those ten years that he really needs to remember his vows.LOL.
I must say that it is a very unusual idea since it is only the 10th, but some relationships dont get that far I guess.
Make it a one on one dialogue between the two of you over a wedding cake.

There should be nothing to "overdo" - just have a ceremony or blessing at your church, then invite close friends and family for a dinner at your home. That's all a vow renewal is.
