It's a huge misconception that only skinny emaciated girls and girls under their healthy BMI's can be anorexic. I think it's not true.

While you may THINK it's not true, I can tell you for a FACT it's not true!

It's true that one of the characteristics of diagnosing anoexia nervosa is being at least 35% underweight, it's not REQUIRED for the diagnosis. There are tons of other symptoms and characteristics of anorexia that are used to diagnose the disease.

There are people who are anorexic who have reported BMIs ranging from under 15 (emaciated), to over 30 (obese). The way a person LOOKS has nothing to do with their MENTAL state, and eating disorders are mental disorders.

I hate that misconception ...

Girls with heavier weights can be practicing anorexic behaviors (i.e., not eating) and can be at the beginning of becoming anorexic. Also, overweight girls (and guys) can be bulimic, with a tendency towards the binge side of the cycle moreso than the purge. They will eventually lose weight, but the bigger issue is the health risks they take with both anorexic and bulimic behaviors. The emaciated figures that you see of girls and guys which symbolize anorexia occur after months/years of abuse.

It is a misconception. It is the amount of weight lost in a short amount of time and lack of eating. An anorexic does not have to become too skinny to be an anorexic. It is the behavior of an anorexic that makes them too skinny.

Well, technically, the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa does require that the person be significantly below their healthy body weight.

However, you are correct that a person can be severely eating disordered without meeting all of the diagnostic criteria for anorexia. The diagnosis in this case is usually EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified).

Yes because anorexia only means to not eat so sure they can suddenly decide not to eat anymore and if they stick with it or something changes in them mentally to make them want to stay that way then they would have developed anorexia.

I agree thoroughly. human beings dont understand that the ladies you notice in magazine are edited with the main state-of-the-paintings classes to do away with all flaws. nicely-known human beings additionally dont have on a regular basis jobs and events to accomplish so as that they have time to hire a private trainor and have the particularly high priced low calorie meals. and in simple terms by using fact those women are skinny, doesnt mean they are healthful. Who is conscious of how terriblel their lives particularly are. All by using fact of one image of a "skinny" physique, little women and teens desire to be like them, and placed their own well-being in possibility.
