What can I write in a christmas card for my neighbor [[[whom we don't know very well]]] who's loved one just passed? I want it to be sympathetic, encouraging and heartfelt. Thanks. Happy Holidays.

I don't think you necessarily have to say anything about their loss. I would go over with a plate of cookies. When people are feeling lonely and mourning loss, the greatest comfort is having somebody there. It's easy to send out a Christmas card, but it shows a lot of care and thought to visit somebody (even if you don't know them very well). I think paying your neighbor a little visit with some cookies will be worth more than 1,000 cards to them. Maybe you can even invite her/him over for Christmas dinner.

You seem to already be on target! Just write the same way you project in your question. You sound very sad and sympathetic for their loss.
Happy Holidays to you too!

You could write a message inside that says something like
"We are thinking of you this holiday season. Please let us know if we can help you in any way."

Then, take over a plate of cookies or treats.

Check on him/her a few days after Christmas.
