I think it depends on your family.
Our family (7 yr. and 9 yr. old boys) usually gets one big gift and about 6 other "smaller" gifts. This year we got a FOOSBALL which is the bigger gift for thiem both and smaller items like Gameboy game, DVDs, Hot wheels set, baseball, etc.

Boy like electronics. My 8 and 10 year old asked for an Ipod (which they will NOT be getting!) But they want games for their game boys or their x-box.

Kawasaki Dirt Bike - My 8 year old had a Suzuki PW80 that bottoms out when ever he jumps it so he is getting a new Kawasaki. He is also getting Star Wars toys.
