Well, in one day, I don't think he'll be too devasted. Just always realize that you may be hurting feeling whether you meant to or not, and always be respectful. Never say anything that would make them feel bad or like it was their fault (even if it was.)
You might say, "I made a mistake. I wasn't ready for this. I don't think it is the right time for me to being going steady." Or things like that. Keep it about you. Add things like, "You are really great. I don't want to hurt you."

There is no way to break up with anyone who cares about you without hurting them. If you've only gone out once, be honest and tell him that you do not want to continue to date him.
Do not be personal and attack something that irritates you, but be general and explain that it would not be fair for you both to continue in a relationship that will not have a chance to develop any further.

You have little time invested so just tell him that you really don't want to be tied down to one person at your age. Make sure you let him know that it wouldn't be fair to either of you. Plead the fact that you are far to immature to make any kind of relationship commitment. That statement is guaranteed to get you off the hook.

You can't. You can only try to mitigate the damage. Ultimately, you must do what is best for you and end the relationship quickly. Trying to "hang in there" and being politically correct will only make you miserable thus making him miserable, causing him to be cruel or violent, thus making you cruel and violent, thus . . . Well, you get the message. Remember . . . sooner means less pain for both of you.

Just say you are on the rebound and it wouldn't be fair to either one of you to start a relationship at this point.

Tell him that he is a great person, but you decided to get back together with your ex-boyfriend. I think he will understand that. That will be a lie, but his feelings wont get hurt that much, I think.

Then just say that it was not really a good idea. You don't have to be rude or anything just say this is not right for you.
