I'm not sure if I want to go bc i don't know who i will talk to and i don't want to end up sitting all alone. I talk to people while i'm at work but since everyone will be together i think they might talk to someone they know better.

To make a good impression on the supervisors and managers, I'd at least make an appearance and stay for an hour or two. Make the rounds and after that, if you feel like leaving, by all means do so.

Is it for empoyees only or can you take a friend? If employees only, just make the rounds and stop and talk to each group or person standing. You might find that you're not the only person standing alone and so the group of you can get together and have a good time!

You should go! Talk to some of the people you know from the office and see if they can save you a seat at their table - then enjoy meeting new people in the office. Office parties are a great way to get to know new people and make friendly relationships outside of the office.

i think you should go and have fun. Initially you might start off being alone, but its a great way to get closer to people at work, dont stay on a spot, but move around and join in conversation. It might be the beginning of new friendships for u. good luck

I have already told my boss I won't be at the company New Year's party this year - I have gone for the last number of years and have not enjoyed most of them. I take the view that I can choose my friends but my colleagues are imposed upon me and often I don't want to associate with them for hours in an environment of enforced and expected jolity.

You should go. You will get to know your co-workers on a social level and that can be quite fun. And if you are really having a rotten time, pretend you got a phone call or make up some excuse and leave.

Go and mingle!!
I didnt want to go to our party but i ended up going anywyas and met the VP of our company and it turned out to be fun.

Just go and give it a shot
You'll never know how it is until you experience it. If you truely have a sucky time then don't go next year. but give it a shot. You never know who you'll meet or how much fun you'll have without going.

And I think it's another way to 'bond' with your co-workers. It's nice.

Go! I went to mine last night. I was alone for part of the time, I had a great time anyway. Just make sure you behave. Don't wear anything too revealing, and don't drink too much. it's a nice way to make contacts too

Find a friend outside of your workplace to take with you. Choose someone who is outgoing and fun, but not over-the-top. It will help you get to know your coworkers without putting you in the spotlight.
