It seems to me that there a large discrepancy on the levels of pride that can be accepted. Based on this observation I see why the Bible has so many interpetations. It seems to me that if one sin cannot be decided on then agreement on the entire Bible will quite possibly never be acheived. What say you?

Bingo! When did people ever agree on anything?

Oh even christians argue with other christians. Let me say if God resists the proud, then how can it NOT be a sin? Pride is puffing ones self up. There is nothing within any human being that he ought to be proud. Even the most devout christian can be proud of some great achievement but when compared with God, it looks like an ant being proud of carrying the heaviest grain of sand ever carried. It is focusing on ourselves that God does not want. The bible says if you must be proud of anything, be proud of Christ crucified. I'm not sure exactly what that means...but I'm certainly no where in that statement.

This one is not hard. In english, pride has many meanings. Could mean being proud of your kids for doing something right, or being proud of yourself for meeting a goal. You have to look at the form of pride IN CONTEXT to the sin, wich is:

(Proverbs 8:13). The Bible tells us that, “pride brings destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to live it up among the rich and famous (Proverbs 16:18-19). The Message paraphrase of Proverbs 16:5 goes on to say that, “God cannot stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, He’ll put those upstarts in their place.”

Pride in the sense of sin, is arrogance, being haughty, superior, holier than thou, THAT is the sin of pride.

Whatsoever a man thinks in his heart, that he is also. Proverbs

If the thing you are proud of supersedes your faith in God it is sin because then it becomes an idol or like a god in your heart.

1st commandment Thou shalt have no other god's

God will not share His glory with your accomplishments, that is to say, if you give more credit to the thing you are proud of over the fact that God gave you the ability to do or have whatever it is then it becomes sin. God wants us to enjoy life. He understands our being happy over the things we accomplish. We are made in His image. He was proud or happy with the accomplishments He achieved at the creation "He saw that it was good..." I'm sure he understands our joy.

the bible won't go away just by ignoring it. But then again, if you don't bring it up in conversation it's not a relative topic

Hmm..I'd say, deal with it when it arrives, and drop it when it leaves.

People in this world will never agree on anything. Exspecially the bible. Everybody has their own beliefs. So, i say, believe in what you want... and if it gets you to heaven, then go you! But, i believe in the bible, and everything that's in it! Nobody can make you believe in something you don't want to believe in.
