Over time, man have forgotten about the words of God, and corrupted the words of God. God sent prophets to remind them, to teach them, to preach to them, so that they would follow and worship God, correctly.

I can see no justification for God sending any prophets to the world. If God is all-powerful and was capable of making the universe, he was capable of making right in the first place and he does not need to send them to "fine tune" it. Also, if God is all-powerful, why would he need prophets as a mouthpiece; he is certainly capable of communicating with each of us directly.

A couple reasons, off of the top of my head I can think of:

1) Because He promised he would- and God always keeps His promises.

2) To be a messenger, spokesperson, and leader for Him.

3) Some to fufill specific missions too (Moses to free the Isrealites from Bondage for example)
