If your cat is on heat like my two tomcats seem to be...just let them stay away and be happy...otherwise they drive you to drink ....
or do you need an excuse for this time of the year anyway :-) ?

Sometimes outside cats do go roaming a day our two before returning. Have you been checking everywhere in your neighborhood? Your cat might have gotten treed. A few times we've had cats turn up missing for as long as two weeks.
After you get your kitty home, you may want to seriously consider making her an inside cat. Or at least build a roofed enclosure of some sort, if you wish her to continue going outside.

A day is nothing abnormal for a cat. I'd say atleast 4 to 5 days, then I'd be concerned. But I wouldn't give up so easily and remove all her stuff. You should go out and see if you can find her. Post some "Lost Cat" posters around your neighborhood! I was reunited with my cat after EIGHT months! So never give up :)

My sister in law's cat would leave and be gone for a month and come back. She had two different homes. We were pretty sure because she had on a new collar when she came back. My sister in law called the number on the ID Tag and that is how they found out she was going to two different homes. They lived 3 blocks from each other so it was easy for the cat to get form one spot to the next. Cats are special!! Maybe your cat will come back

Depending if your cat is spayed or neutered, it may be out looking for a mate. Sometimes cats can be gone for a while, but if this is not the norm for it. there could be a problem. Have you checked the shelter to see if he has been turned in ? Also you can put signs around in case anyone has seen it, or run an add in the paper. Please don't give up yet, but that is why my cats are inside cats only!!!

My cat "disappeared" for more than a week when he was 2 years old and not fixed. I was just about certain that he wasn't coming home. But on the 10th day, coming home from church where I prayed for him, I found him meowing outside my bedroom window.
So... do not give up. If your cat is alive, he'll come home when he is hungry. 24 hrs is NOT a long tome for a cat to go AWOL.

Believe it or not I have had Cats reappear at my door months after they have gotten outside. A neighbor of mine who did not know he was my cat or think he had a home kept him in her house as her cat for 5 months then he escaped just like he did with me and he came back to me. He just reappeared now I think the neighbor is wondering where he is so maybe we should share him. He's no dummy.

Sometimes if my cat hasn't been out for a while, he will dissappear for 3-4 days. He eats other cats food that is left out and he just hangs out. I would give him a week!!

Cats always find their way home, Im sure that your cat will find its way home. It may have adopted a new family and come back to you in time. Don't remove his/her stuff until your sure he/shes not coming home.
