it's all relative.

It's not the gun that kills, it's the people that use it.

Neither religion officially espouses violence, but both religions have had tremendous violence done in their name. Still, if you look at the religions based only on their doctrines, both are generally peaceful religions.

During the time of the Crusades in the 13th century, there was nothing peaceful about Christianity. Throughout the Middle Ages, the church was used to oppress European societies.

There is certainly nothing peaceful about radical Islam today. The followers of this particular sect are straight out of the Middle Ages. However, most Muslims are quite peaceful.

I would judge the "peacefulness" of a religion by its followers. Most Muslims live in Theocracies in which the religion is used as the basis of oppressive regimes. These societies breed violence and terrorism. In that sense, Islam has a much more violent following than does Christianity.

My own feeling is that most religions preach a certain amount of intolerance of those of other religions. To the degree that they preach intolerance of acts of revenge ("an eye for an eye"), they are not peaceful.

nicely, imagine of about it, heavily... ISlam forbids killing the harmless, forbids harming existence, animals, flowers, or insects.... Obligates paying the detrimental cost extremely recommends giving charity. Forbids harming others, phusically or emotionally.... i imagine of it truly is the definition of non violent.. and thats why that is a non violent religions. As for the acitons of the numerous muslims, nicely, they have free will, and a number of them use it antagonistic to the regulations of Islam. SO why blame the religion?? in case you want to ask a significantly better efficient question, it is going to be more beneficial like: ISlam is a non violent faith, purchase why are some muslims aggressive??

I believe there are teachings in both Christianity and Islam that encourage mistrust and suspicion toward anyone who does not belong to the faith. Some Christians and Muslims manage to be peaceful in spite of these teachings, and some use them as an excuse and encouragement to be violent and intolerant.

Christianity, yeah. Or at least Jesus would have it peaceful. Christians are called to bring love and harmony into the world, not crusades. There is a history of war for ealy OT Jews though (which is pretty cool because it describes the battles in the bible).

Islam... oh no.

In order for the Islamic day of judgement to come, "every white devil (or infedel) must be destroyed."

That's comforting, considering I am a white infedel.

But I'll soar into heaven before 1/3 of earth's population is utterly destroyed (in Revelations)

Besides, Jesus didn't call himself a "Christian", he called himself the Son of God and savior of mankind. And he had a right to... he never sinned.

Islam can get out of hand because the doctrine basically instructs it's believers to destroy or kill those who don't convert to that faith. Christianity does no such thing however, just as Chippy posted, the extremist (having so much hate in their hearts I would say they were not Christian but God has the final say on that). Christian doctrine instructs followers of Christ to walk in Love to abide in love with one another and with the world because Christians are called to teach what Jesus taught in love. It even goes on to instruct to bare the cross of our faith meaning that when ridicule, hate, and rejection comes we are to pray for our enemies and quickly forgive them so that The Father can forgive us. I'm sad to say that the bible is not fully followed as it instructs because PEOPLE get in the way, that is, they deceivingly change it to fit their agenda.

Some of those individuals are peaceful people, yes.

I think that religions could be dangerous among different personalities. It is the matter of individual choices.
