I am trying to lose weight. I have planned my diet and have purchased exercise videos. I am planning on exercising an hour and a half a day, 6 days a week. I don't want to over do it, however I would like to acheive my weight loss goal. Is this too much exercise, or too little? I am a fairly active person, I just want to shed some unwanted weight from a pregnancy.

My doctor said as long as you recover from it--that is, after you rest you feel okay---it is fine. If you get too exhausted, cut back and/or do a different kind of exercise, she said.

An hour and half six times a week seems ok. Depends on how strenous is your exercise routine. For losing weight you need at least 40 min doing exercise that makes you feel: warm, with your face red, not dizzy, plus 10 to 15 minutes for warming up and stretch before exercise and the same after for stretch and strenght exercise, that makes about 1 hour and 10 minutes your minimal exercise by day if you want to lose weight. Start with the exercise that makes you feel well with your face red, may be you will sweat, and not dizzy. if you feel that you are being hurt stop or decrease intensity, and enjoy your physical activity. gradually increase (5 minutes or more per week).

It also depends on how much weight you want to lose.
Reasons begin doing exercise vary:
-to increase cardiovascular health
-to lose weight
-to have fun
-to have a more active life
-to shape your figure.
If you want to do it for some of these reasons, keeping aside fun and figure, you probably will benefit from a heart rate monitor for your exercise program.
It sort works this way:
if you want to lose weight do at least 40 min a day (it can be 20,20 or 15, 25 wahtever), (if you are buying the heart rate monitor your can ask the seller about which heart rate is appropriate)
if you want to be more active you can go to higher rates, beware of lesions by slowing down when you feel it hurts and not reaching your maximun heart rate (210-age per minute).
if yor want to increase your cardiovascular health, you can begin with the weight loss routine.
If you want to change your body shape, keep in mind that shtrenght exercises should not be done in the same muscle in consecutive days, so one day you do legs, next day do arms.

Also you have to do STRETCH exercises before and after exercise always (at least 10 min and inlcude the muscles you are going to use). this will help you not to injure your muscles.

The arthritis foundation, a reliable resource, reccomends that you do not take pain medications for exercise, and that if pain last more than 2 hours after the effort it means that you did too much exercise.

And have lots of fun, play with kids, friends, find friends that encourage you to do exercise and eat healthy, you will be rewarded. And keep planning your meals...

Have a very good day!

As long as your getting enough rest and drinking and eating enough to fuel the exercise you do. If you feel exhausted, stop, don't overexert yourself. Don't over do it right away either, if your not used to exercising that often maybe start out slower and go up to the amount of exercise you want to do. The people on biggest loser would exercise 7 hours a day, that's why they lost so much wieght quickly.

as long as you get at least one day a week where you do NOTHING, it's good. your body AND your central nervous system need a break. also, if you are lifting, rest 24-48 hours before lifting again (for a specific part if you do a split routine).

it's better to start gradually and ease into a routine instead of being too ambitious and getting burned out early. that could end up discouraging future attempts.

try working out first thing in the morning on a empty stomach. that way you burn more fat because some people wait all day to exercise and it harder to burn the calories you put on all day
