Completely different styles and subject matter but Michael Gentry and Renoir. But it is really hard to actually pick one. It depends on my mood!
Oh wait, Renoir kind of crossed over into the 20th, so I will go with Millet!

20th century: John Singer Sargent / I think of him as 20th c.
pre-20th c. was it Fra Angelico who painted musical angels,
the ones holding the instruments...
also the English (?) painter who did those spectacular paintings of Venice (and who did not??) ... started as an architectural illustrator ... can't remember his name .. .. sorry!
In addition, there was the Hudson River School that had wonderful paintings (American) ... and that achingly beautiful painting of mountains out West, one of which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum ... forgot his name also.... fie!
Also is Raoul Dufy not 20th c. I like him, too ...

Genius: Miles Davis, Ravel mind-blowing: Steve Reich, Allan Holdsworth gifted: Kevin Gilbert gifted: Stevie Ray Vaughan in spite of the undeniable fact that, imo a "mind-blowing" musician can produce greater suited music than a "genius". yet for this reason I used it as genius purely being "the superb"... as an occasion i'm unsure if Miles Davis substitute right into a genius according to se, yet i think of Jimi Hendrix substitute into... in spite of the undeniable fact that I additionally think of Miles Davis produced infinitely better music to Jimi Hendrix, etc.
