I want to take my girlfriend to NYC for a day sometime before christmas, just to shop and look around a bit. I tried looking on the NYC subway map for a parking garage or something, but I can't seem to find one. Im hoping someone can help me out about where I can park and just take the subway in. I dont want to have to try to find a place inside the city. Thanks.

If you are coming from Jersey, you can take a ferry from Port Imperial, Weehawken. Parking is $9 daily. Ferry is $6 each way per person to midtown (less than a 10min ride). Once you arrive in midtown, you can catch a free shuttle bus (available in front of terminal). The shuttle buses can take you to Times Square, Theatre District, Chelsea Piers, the Village... just about anywhere in NYC.

This is the safest & easiest way to get to NYC - and you beat the crowds & traffic!

You are right by Times Square, so here is what I would do: Go to the Wax Museum, which is on 42nd Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue, a couple of blocks away. Take the Brooklyn-bound (2) or (3) trains Chambers Street. From there, transfer across the platform to the (1) to South Ferry. At South Ferry, there is a shuttle boat to the Statue of Liberty. Once you are back at South Ferry, walk down Broadway until you hit Wall Street. You can then explore the area and go walk on the Brooklyn Bridge. Finally, you can walk to the High Street subway station on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge and take the Manhattan-bound (A) or (C) train to 42nd Street, which is right by Times Square (and near your starting point). The fare is $2.25 per trip when using a MetroCard, so that's 2 trips (or $4.50) for each person traveling. Keep in mind that, after you load $10 onto a MetroCard, you get a 7% bonus, which could save you a bit of money. I hope this information was very helpful.

If you go to Manhattan, you'll find a parking garage everywhere and the train stations are always near, they'll give you a subway map, if anything you can always call 411 and they can help you. Have fun.

I come from the north and take the MTA commuter train in. You can park at most stations from New Haven and going on through Connnecticut. (I usually park in Milford.)

The fare is cheap, the ride comfortable, and you get to get out at Grand Central Station, which is a beautiful train station.

Where are you coming in from? You may be better off parking in the suburbs, and taking the commuter rail in. (Westchester = Metro North, N.J. = NJ Transit, Long Island= LIRR). You can go to www.mta.info or www.njtransit.com and check out maps and station information.
