The calorie game really applies here. If you want to lose weight, you must either (a) eat less calories than your body needs on a regular basis, or (b) exercise so you burn extra calories, or (c) both. In your case, your body needs approximately 2,900 calories a day just to maintain your current weight, so if you wanted to lose two pounds a week without having to exercise you could cut your caloric intake back to 1,900 calories a day safely. If you were to add exercise onto that (walking is GREAT for burning fat) you could lose even more than that.

One thing you need to know: What you eat will make you or break you. Your enemies are: fast food, junk food, soft drinks, or anything with trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, saturated fat, or processed flour/sugar. Instead, go for eggs, nuts (any kind), lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, lowfat dairy products, and whole grain breads/cereals/pasta. You should only drink water, skim milk, coffee, or tea the vast majority of the time. Fruit juice is OK once in a while, but real fruit is so much better for you and has added weight loss benefits.

Here are a few other tips:

-- Eat breakfast every day within 90 minutes of waking up. People who don't are 450% more likely to be overweight.

-- Eat six small meals or snacks every day instead of three square meals a day. Eating less food but eating more often keeps your metabolism elevated throughout the day.

-- Olive oil is the world's best natural appetite suppressant. It's high in monounsaturated fat, which your body needs to metabolize certain vitamins and also helps keep your cholesterol levels where they need to be. Try taking one tablespoon three times a day before meals.

-- The more fiber you get in your diet, the better. Fiber fills you up and also helps keep those cholesterol levels in check. Aim for at least 25g of fiber per day.

-- Allow yourself half a day once a week to eat and drink WHATEVER YOU WANT. Just don't gorge yourself. That'll help keep you focused, and you won't feel "deprived." Also, you can have a little bit of chocolate or lowfat ice cream during the week. Just don't go overboard -- Hershey's Kisses or those Hershey's miniatures are a good way to go.

-- Any exercise helps, so do whatever you can whenever you can. Even if you can only squeeze in a 10-minute walk, it's better than nothing.

Good luck!

Have you tried a cleanse? I've been trying exercise only for about 4 months and I only dropped 7 lbs. But with cleaning and exercising I lost 22 lbs in a month. I tried a 9 day cleanse. I'm going to do it again next month. My doctor recommended it to me for my weight loss. With a good cleanse you can lose up to 10 lbs in 9 days. And it's not just water weight. Just cleanse, eat healthy and exercise at least 1 hour 3 times a week. Even if it's just walking around the mall or the track. I'm now on month 2 and I've lost a total of 35lbs and 73 inches. Good luck.
