God says harming a fetus should be punished by a fine determined by a judge and killing a woman should be punished by death. But Jesus says we should not punish either. Who is right?
This is from the King James Version

Old Testament God
Exodus 22:22-24
If men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her…punished according to her husband and pay a fine as a judge determines.
If he kills the woman, then life for life eye for eye, tooth for tooth

New Testament Jesus
Mathew 5:38-39
Ye have heard it said, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for tooth.” But I say unto you that yet resist not evil (the evil of non-forgiveness, judgment and revenge): but who so ever shall smite the on the right cheek turn to him the other also. (don't seek revenge against those who harm you)

Very interesting!

Exodus 22 is citing the civil law by which judges were to humanly govern the people. They lived under a Theocracy with god directing them and speaking to them.

We now live under a different civil law depending on where you live. So these civil laws are not applicable. They were not the reflection of God's character (as the 10 commandments) but a reflection of the peoples own weakness. They were necessary at that time to maintain civil order.

God's intention from the beggining is that we forgive each other. Even today if God forgives your sins you still have to pay for your actions when you commit a crime.

Exodus 22 is a part of the Law God gave to the Israelites.
Are you Jewish?
If not, why do you apply them to yourself?
Besides, they don't even apply to Jews anymore.
Jesus' put an end to the Law.
This is the idea in: Romans 10:4 and Galation 3:13.
The OT is still good for history, poetry, prophecy and an insight on God's personnality .....BUT we are not subject to the Law given through Moses.

it particularly is an exciting question. the respond is the two confident and no. confident: Mormons have self assurance that Jesus is the comparable guy or woman as Jehovah, the God of the old testomony. Even the identify website of the e book of Mormon states that it substitute into written "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the everlasting God". No: whilst "God" refers back to the father, we don't think that Jesus is God, yet particularly the Son of God. There are 3 distinctive persons which incorporate the Godhead: God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. they are separate entities yet united in purpose. often times the word "God" would properly be ambiguous, because it ought to signify the father, the Son, the Holy Ghost, or all 3 jointly. often speaking, in spite of the undeniable fact that, the word "God" is used to signify our Heavenly Father, until the context dictates in any different case.

The Bible (New Testament) says obey the king and his laws, which also means in today's society we are bound by law and their consequences. Eye for an Eye was a part of the judicial system of their time, and it is still practiced by most countries in the middle east. We are to submit to the laws of the land and our judicial system. God's laws are to prevent us from harm and offence, and if we are obedient we won't have to be worried about facing the consequences of illegal action. When we are hurt by someone, we are not to seek judgment by our own means, either let the law deal with it and if not VENGENCE IS THE LORD'S

Both. Jesus said in Matt. 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." He came as the ultimate payment for all sins so that His blood would cover their wrong and His cross would be where the punishment was given and payed for. He taught to love your enemies and to let God alone be judge of a person's sins.

you have a good question. One of the answers is the Trinity. the Father(God), the Son(Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. they are one. Three persons in one. so you can say that you Believe in God or Jesus because they are the same. oh and you might want to get a another Bible in another translation. try English Standard Version. it'll be easier to understand.

Exodus 22 KJV says :
[22] Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
[23] If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;
[24] And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
