You, erudite, ask the same inane questions, over and over and over again....
1) We continued the aggression against Iraq thanks to Saddam's failure to comply to cease-fire agreements laid down after the cessation of hostilities from the operation known as Desert Storm.
2) If shown that we will not act upon those types of things, it sets the precedent that we are easily manipulated and a pushover to strong-arm tactics of madmen who are not against terror, use of chemical and biological agents against people, supporting suicide bombers, etc....
3) North Korea, if truly in violation of mandates holding the cease-fire there (there was no formal surrender in the Korean war), we would be justified in hostilities. But with relations with the other super-powers known as China and Russia, and with them being in the region, we are trying to use their possible leverage while N. Korea is teetering on the brink.
4) The war in Iraq was not 'for nothing'. Ask the Iraqis that were in Saddam's death camps, the Kuwaitis, etc.

The US gains freedom with the death of every terrorist, because their lives are a threat to our freedom. The fighting in Iraq kills America's enemies, which mostly consists of terrorists and their supporters. The logic is fairly simple and quite true: Kill the men with the bombs and the detonators and you are free of their violence against you.
PS: Vietnam was like Korea, the defense against an imperialistic USSR. What happens if the USSR grows (by military force) too big and too powerful? You can entertain this question solely on an intellectual level because Republicans (chiefly and finally President Reagon) neutralized the possibility of that threat actually becoming a reality. The answer to that question directly and substantially involves your freedom, as much as it affected the freedoms of the North Koreans and the Vietnamese.

I think the fighting is to make Iraq an unsafe place for terrorists.
We've caught and/or killed at least 15 major terrorists, Iraq voted in it's first elections, and there have been some additional benefits like females being able to attend school, women being able to hold jobs, etc.
The parallel that I find with Vietnam is the inability or unwillingness of Iraq's own troops to do the fighting. Just like the South Vietnamese Army, the Iraqi army seems afraid to fight, plus there is corruption in the local government and police departments that allow insurgents to continue to flourish.

It's not only giving freedom to the US, but to the world. Insurgency can spread all over the middle east and can make the world dangerous with terrorist who are willing to die to kill as much people as they can. We need to stop it now before it gets much worst. We'll probably end up being attacked again, and even worst than 9-11. So i think we need to get the job done now.
I know we're losing troops, but freedom does not come free.

YOU JUST DONT KNOW HOW BIG A DEAL THIS REALLY IS. A STRONG DEMOCRACY IN THAT PART OF THE WORLD IS A DEEPLY SERIOUS THREAT TO THE ISLAMIC COMMUNITY IN THE MIDDLE EAST. ONCE IRAQ GETS UP TO SPEED, WITH ITS RESOURCES, KATIE BAR THE DOOR. PROSPERITY IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER IF THEY COULD ONLY GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER....AND A SUCCESSFUL DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT WOULD BE AN EXAMPLE TO OTHERS TO STOP THE KILLING AND GET DOWN TO WORK TO ELEVATE ALL THE PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY AND DESPAIR. WHY DO YU THINK THEY ARE FIGHTING SO HARD. THE SHIA AND THE SUNNIS DIDNT HAVE THIS MUCH A PROBLEM BEFORE. MONEY AND FIGHTERS ARE COMING IN TO STOP DEMOCRACY AND FAN THE FLAMES OF SECTARIAN VIOLENCE. MOST OF THE NATIONS IN THE REGION HAVE A STAKE IN KEEPING THE STATUS QUO IN THEIR COUNTRIES. A DEMOCRACY WOULD UPSET THE APPLE CART.

In what sense do you mean freedom? If you mean that a terrible dictator won't take over our country your right, but my friend, ponder on this.
We have not had a terrorist attack on our soil, or any other soil where U.S. citizens lay their heads (except the obvious, Iraq, Afgahnistan) since we have taken their JIHAD (war) to them on THEIR turf, i.e. Iraq and Afgahnistan, SO, yes this is about our free way of life, democracy and our childrens right to rest their heads at night knowing our soil is safer. God bless the Citizens who volunteer for our rights to a free life (Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors alike) and please, keep enjoying that freedom, I know Soldiers enjoy defending it.

Our soldiers fighting in Iraq is not bringing us freedom in this land. People think that way because that's is what they have been told.
Excellent plan, brilliantly executed by Israel on the American people!

You are an idiot, you spend all your time here down talking the Goverment and the Military, yet according to your profile you are retired from the goverment. If you have such a hatred for the Goverment why don't you call them up and tell the you don't want that retirement check they send you every month.
Didn't think so.

I am against this war, but I disagree that our troops are dying for "nothing." They give their lives for us every day. They are doing a job voluntarily that you and I would never do. Please be careful of how you word sentences about our troops because whether we are for or against the war, we should all respect our soldiers. They are, after all, only doing their jobs.

Your entire post screams "I AN UNINFORMED."
No one has claimed that fighting in Iraq is "giving us freedom." We already have that. By fighting terrorists in Iraq, we're keeping global terror's focus on one place and simultaneously keeping them OUT of the United States.
Make no mistake: Militant Islam wants an end to the West and a global legal system under the Quran. *I* am not saying this, but terrorists certainly are.
Vietnam did not have bearing on YOUR freedom, but ask the millions of Vietnamese and Cambodians what it did to THEIR freedom.
