in a gym, the most common filling is strips of cloth, if its a big bag, they will fill it with sand (or if its a bag that is meant to be heavy) in the bottom and them pack it with strips of cloth up top, this serves a dual purpose, 1. boxers dont hurth their hands when they hit the bottom of the bag (gravity and settling will make it like a rock when you go for a body shot) and 2 if the bag rips, there is not much of a cleanup with cloth, sand on the otherhand, gets everywhere.

that in Thailand, I've seen 'em use RUBBISH, yes, TRASH! As a boxing bag filler!

And it was great. The bags were not too heavy (unrealistic), and I didn't notice until I saw them put up a new bag, despite 18 months there!

never mind all those silly answers. i opened a bag once and it was filled with old clothes.the center was fillled with sand for the weight but to protect you fighters hands old clothes was used in the bag..and that's the truth!
