Hi there, depends on your skin type
i know some natural remedies you could try:
use some tea tree oil-put it in water and splash your face, or look for it in the ingredients of your face wash
don't exfoliate too often-once/twice month should be sufficient
natural exfoliators-paw paw and pineapple face masks
use masks at least once a week
try dabbing a little olive oil on your face at night thsi prevents excessive oil production
drink plenty of water

I suffered with it for a long time and I found the face wash kind of stuff to be useless in the long run.
Mostly I just wash my face with warm water, rinse all the extra oil off. Sometimes I use a regular hand soap, antibacterial with some mosturizer, nothing specific.
The biggest thing for me I found was my diet and lifestyle that effected my skin. I notice that if I eat chocolate my face tends to lose it's ability to heal the acne and all the acne starts to just be little sores that can bleed. When I eat healthy and drink plenty of water (the 8 cups a day) my face can usually be completely clear. Also when my diet is good and I get any acne problems it usually goes away within the day at most. When I'm on the chocolate cake and donut diet (and really only a couple donuts in the past couple days) I get 3x as much acne and takes at least 3x as long to heal.
The most best part of the diet thing for me (everyone is different) is the toxin build up. Drink some green tea which is filled with anti-oxidants. This usually clears my system up after 1 or 2 cups. Drink loads of water. Lemonade (with real lemons) also would be really good. I found chocolate is a big no no for my skin but yours good be dairy or something. See what you eat on a regular basis and start writing down what you eat and what stage your face is at. This way you can look back in 2 weeks and say, ok on friday and saturday my face was terrible and I ate pizza those days.
The face wash kind of stuff can only really help the surface and what's the point of fixing up the surface when more and more keep coming back. Anyway I hope some of this has helped. Right now when I eat right my skin is almost 100% clear and any problems are very minor, just rinsing my face and the next morning it's almost gone. Also excercise, get's your immune system working more which means it can fight off the tiny little infections.
Don't forget, eat fruits and veggies which help a good bit. Take a multivitamin everyday and drink water!!! I know this won't help everyone but out of my friends who have tried these things (especially drinking plenty of water) they all have skin like mine in various degrees. Some are younger and they just get more acne but it's like my skin, heals very quickly and isnt all red everywhere.
Lastly as I'm sure you know, don't touch your face except with clean hands and even so try to avoid touching your face skin to anything because it can help rub dirt in and make the little infections even worse.

Instead of going for neutrogena or the proactive one, there is one effective treatment. But you have to be patient, the best part is it doesnt have any side effects and not only that it removes acne problems permanantly. Try homeopathic treatment. I have tried and it was succesful for me. Now im using another homeopathic ointment for my burns on my leg. ITs really good and i recommend it. If you want to know more about it or read some reviews or something before buying it , go to this blog :http://nomoreacnes.blogspot.com. This will help you. Bye and all the best.

the best face wash i have ever found is proactiv, n trust me i have used everything. i noticed results in 2 days. try it!!!! other things you can do to prevent acne is to try and not touch your face. the oil on your fingers can stay on your face, wash your face before going to bed. also, wash your pillowcases often. the oil in your hair rubs on them, then your face touches them and the oil from your hair makes your face oily.
if proactiv is to expensive for u, then i would say trying the clearasil daily cleanser. also i noticed peanut butter makes me break out.
