Did you end up developing feelings for them later on? Did it work out and if, not how long was it before you gave up and called it quits?

TheMountainview guy's response is where I am going with it. The guys that I am typically attracted to are jerks and usually any guy that comes along and treats me right, I usually end up not being attracted to in the long run. With that said, and considering how much emphasis is placed on physical attraction as an important ingredient for a relationship, do you think it is possible for feelings to develop in a romantic sense with someone that you were not initially attracted to? Secondly, do you think our preference for someone is conditioned if you will and that we do only go one specific type (whether we realize it or not) that pretty much dictate the types of relationship will we have over the course of time?

being physically attracted to can often mean a habit ... you are used to thinking a certain type is attractive ... it is like a program ... you smell food you get hungry, unless it is liver or something you are not familiar with. it doesn't mean you will not like it. some people are addicted to a certain type that is bad for them and really need to break that habit.
for a really good friendship and not just a fling it is better to get to know someone and find out whether a certain fondness develops, it will teach you more about people and more about yourself too.

I married one! He is hot based on standards....but not physically or chemically to me. But I love his personality and all that he is. So it works...but sex...well keep in mind that sex won't be very exciting...but if you are looking for a deeper relationship based on other things, it may be worth it. I would consider finding someone who intrigues you on all levels so you won't feel like you are suffering from lack of intimacy or attraction. We are still together. But, it's tough.

I am currently engaged to one. To my standards when i met him, i was not attracted to him, he was much shorter and scrawneyer than other men I had dated. But it was his personality, and his values that kept me interested in him, and I moved past my inhahibitions about his appearance, and I am truly happy now. I think that he is stunningly handsome, and I would not want anyone else. I can honestly say I dont even notice other men over him.... and all I crave is him.

I did, cuz he was sweet and funny.
We broke up after a year, cuz we were young and immature. I never caught those "butterfly" feelings though, so I was never in love.
But I loved and still do love him! We're still really good friends.
It is not what is on the outside, but what is on the inside that is so important!
