I dont know enough about it really to give my thoughts on it. Of course something negative always comes to mind when I hear Islam simply bc of what the media is constantly putting in our face. But unlike a lot of biggots out there I am willing to expand my mind and learn more about the religion before I place any judgment. Just like any religion there are pros and cons. : )

What I think is this. Just like a devout and true Christian a true and devout person of Islam would never hurt anyone unless they're is just cause. I am a Muslim. As for Osama Bin Laden I think nothing of him and his doctrine. As for the woman they cover mostly out of culture and the way some of them drown themselves in perfume and apply the eye make-up they might as well take their veils off.
Anyway; I don't veil and never will. Oh and yes I have a great time making fun of the way the Saudi men dress, it is only for fun to occupy my bored mind from time to time, I understand it is for tradition, especially those clothes they were, sorry forgot the name of them, by calling the checkered ones picnic clothes and the white ones dish towels.
I love being a Muslim, yet in my love for Islam I do understand why many are against it. I were in there place and have seen and heard what they have heard I would to. I see no violence in true Islam and the question is where and what is true Islam? I believe true Islam to be the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I myself would never blatantly hurt someone without believing what comes around goes around.
People have said Islam is evil. I believe that people on a whole have the choice to be evil or good, have the right to choose to do an evil act or a good act.
There is nothing stupider than Muslims claiming they are killing themselves they will be rewarded. No they will not! They will die and go to hell and what about the people they left behind. Did they think about them, no they did not.
Yes I believe Islam is the relegion for me, because I have seen past all the mundane and most of all I feel an over whelming sense of peace from it. I became a Muslim because of the aura of another muslim I only knew his name, had seen him around, but never talked to him.
Also those veils and things are designed to keep the men from looking at the women and in most cases not all mind you those veiled girls do a lot of boy chasing them selves and yes they do get homeruns. It is no different than backsliding Christians. Again I say there is not magic in relegion it is how we feel and how we conduct ourselves as individuals that is and always will be the truth.

I don't think about it at all, usually.
The few times I do, what I think depends on the circumstance. If I've thought about Islam because of a great deed done by the Aga Kahn, I usually think, "cool! What a great and faithful man!"
On the other hand, when some militant insurgent blows up a bunch of kids at a police station in Baghdad, I'm usually not that impressed when the inevitable Al Qaeda tape comes out raging about "kafirs", "munafiqs", and "shia apostates" and whatnot.

To be very honest, Islam frightens me. Before 9/11, I hadn't really paid much attention to Muslims...they seemed sort of exotic to me, actually, and I did enjoy 1001 Arabian Nights...
Now I truly understand that Scherezade was indeed a very brave lady who saved the lives of possibly hundreds of young women by risking her own...for the Sultan surely would have beheaded her after his wedding night. And even after all those stories, she had to beg for her life, pleading that her children would be motherless...
Suddenly, that story has become very sinister to me.

It is just one of the many religions of the world. I think it is largely misunderstood. All religions have extremists by which they are judged.

They keep saying Islam isn't violent, but everytime something happens they don't like (like cartoons, for crying out loud), it's murder and mayhem. I don't understand the mentality, and hope I never do. And, the poor women! Covering the women head to toe so they're like ghosts, not human beings, is horrible.

It's a complete waste of time like every other religion. Actually moreso since you have to pray 5 times a day.

Not a thing. If it weren't for the fact of bombardments of it in the form of questions, I wouldn't think about it at all.
