I'm 26 years and I know I have still have time but for the past several months I have had this desire to get married and start a family. I'm not in a serious relationship right now but this the only thing that I can think about lately. I don't know if it because I'm single or a lot of people I know are getting married. It is very hard for me to meet new people, I am shy and I can't talk to people openly or start a conversation, which is why I only have a few close friends. I feel like if I don't do this soon, I will never do it. I would like my children to know my mom and grandparents and I don't know what to do any help would be appreciated.

Sweety, you are way younger than you think, turn off the panic and turn on the love of life...!!!!
Maybe alot of your friends are getting married, you will also get to watch alot of them get divorced...
Don't be in such a hurry, slow down....be smart.
If you can afford it I have heard and read that match.com is great, if that isn't affordable try yahoo personals, I had a blast with that and met some great guys...but..better answer,
went to my high school reunion, hooked up with the greatest guy ever, one I didn't really even talk to in highschool...you must have one coming up fairly soon, if my math is okay, try it....look your best and you might be shocked!!!!! We are married now and I have never been happier...
If you are shy the online dating thing is perfect...try it out, and jsut so you know I have two great and happy kids from a previoous marriage and I would suggest the same to them. 26 is still very young in the big scheme of things...you will be okay...good luck

I think it's natural to have these feelings, but I also know that you can't rush it or force it. It happens when it's right for people. You don't want to have some contrived relationship that was all about meeting some self-imposed timetable. Believe me. I know people who have done it, and it leads to trouble down the right. After marriage and a few kids, all the things that seemed like good reasons to do it "now" will pale in comparison if there's a bad relationship without a good foundation of friendship, love and shared goals. Most everyone would hope to have kids young enough so they might know their grandparents and great-grandparents, but if it doesn't happen naturally, it wasn't really meant to be. If that's the case you will have to keep them alive through memories, as sad as that might sound.

Marriage is a really --REALLY--big commitment, you can't just go off with the first person you think you want to marry, well, you can but I don't advise it. There are never any guarantees that your children will be able to meet your mom and grandparents, so don't use that as a reason to start a family. Here is some advise I was given and it is true..."Don't marry the person you can live with, marry the person you can't live without."
When you are supposed to meet your intented, you will. Until then just enjoy being single, someday you will be glad you did!

I went through the same exact thing at 26 and ended up dating a guy that I never would have considered for 5 1/2 years! I'm now 35 and alone again. Don't rush into anything just because you feel social pressure. If you really know in your heart it's time to settle down, take your time in picking someone.

Hello... =)

It is a natural thing for people your age to start thinking about these things. Some people used to say that it was our "biological clocks" ticking....as in....we know that the time is right, instinctively.

Fortunately, we are living in an era when you can start a family in your mid 30's, and still have time for everything. People live much longer than they used to. Your mother and Grandparents will still likely be around 10 years from now, I'd imagine, if we are so lucky.

We are all "hard-wired" to be attracted to members of the opposite sex (for heterosexuals at least) who would be good life-partners, and good parents to our children. Unfortunately, in some of us, the wiring gets mixed up, and we intentionally choose the direct opposite.

Keep looking, and, perhaps, start looking harder, and all will be well. There are a lot of guys around your age, or just a few years older, who are feeling this same phenomenon, trust me.

Namaste,

--Tom

Awww... Its probably normal for you. MANY MANY women start to feel when its time for them to be nesting. I remember one night 8 yrs ago where I had a strong desire to kiss a boy. I met this guy and kissed him that night, and dated him for 3 yrs. Now we are best friends, Im married to a wonderful man, and him and my husband are both friends as well... Sometimes we feel things because a part of us knows something is out there that will change your life forever. Go find it, give up all your shy ways and be yourself. Someone out there will love you, and even if it doesnt last forever.... you will make friendships along the way. Good luck

This will come in time, but it is nothing to get in a hurry for. I understand wanting your children to know parents and grandparents, but if you hurry to accomplish this, but marry someone who isn't right for you in the process, you create more hurt for them than happiness. I am sure they would want you to be happy in life more than they want you to produce grandchildren for them. Life only comes to us one day at a time, so take what each day offers and enjoy that. The relationship, marriage and children will come along in their own intended times. Don't rush life, it is hard enough the way it is.
