I just can't believe in the Judeo-Christian God, which I assume (though I plead ignorance here) is the same God as Allah (more or less at least).

But at the same time I can't belive that there isn't a greater force than us.

Basically I'm asking for new versions of what God may be.

The Universe. It's not fully known yet, but by studying what reality is, it will give us all the answers we need. This is why children are allowed to suffer, because the universe doesn't really care. This is why science has more answers than religion, because the universe is real. This is why dead people don't talk, the universe takes their molecules and makes something else. This is why no amount of prayer will regenerate amputees' limbs, the universe doesn't listen to "prayer." The universe has also made laws which anything intelligent -- human or otherwise -- will be able to understand. The universe will not directly tell us things, we need to study it with open rational minds. Like they say, "Everything is Everything."

A little deep, sorry, but then I am probably older than you.
I gave up the idea of a supernatural in grade three.... just made no sense.... still doesn't. But a tradition is beautiful, and we in this country were raised in a tradition..... the spooky stuff, however is beyond experience and therefore left to those who grasp at straws to find value in life (i.e., I will be rewarded later... yah sure, but uh, no.....)
God, I think is bigger than a supernatural thing: god is the joy of love, the love a man has for his wife, the smile a mother has for her baby, the energy of a baby foal running beside his mother.....god is the sparkle of snow, the glow of a fire, the beauty of a mountain. God is in us all, as creators -- in the had of the artist who with nothing other than paint, and board, can create images that pull you into the piece, or evoke an emotion you would not have unless you saw the painting. God speaks in the music of Bach, of Beethoven, and Mozart. God is in the sound of a violinist in a concert hall.... God is in the hand of the surgeon who cures, in the words of a teacher explaining a concept to a child, whose eyes then light up as the concept is understood..... god is in the science of learning, and in us each as we share, teach, heal, make someone's life better by word or deed. god is everywhere at every moment -- in the tummy of a warm puppy, in the hug of a child. god speaks in the language of DNA. god is tollerance, energy, creating, diversity, and kindness.

These are ideas that come from deists, unitarians, universalists buddhists and others who see christianity as it is now a silly concoction of crap. As one of my profs of christian ethics had on his door, "god, save us from all those who believe in you."

I've found my truth within the "truths". However, I think my denomination takes a rather hard line on some issues, and though I'll remain a member, I'll always feel free to ask the tough questions. Everybody should ask the tough questions until they find what they're looking for.

God isn't Allah, c'mon. You gotta look a little closer than that.

God is a creation of the human mind. We made him in our own image. If there is a greater force controlling the universe, it has left no evidence of itself other than the things we see around us. And that unfortunately proves nothing.

If you believe that there is a greater force(intelligence) than us what else can you call it but god.

If there is a creator/divine being, it is too complicated for us to even begin to understand, so we might as well stop fussing about it and just get on with our lives.
