That's only true within heights close to the earth surface. This value is bigger as you go close to the earth inner core, and smaller as you go beyond that, till there is eventually no gravitational effect.

The fact that g is constant at all time within a given region demonstrates that there is no God. Imagine a believer riding a plane, and he runs out of fuel. Its either there is no God, and nature just works on its own, or there is a God who pulls the plane down, or there is a God who can Interference with nature (he didn't unnecessarily make it) but he is a prick and care less about his followers, or there is a God which can't do anything.

The most probable one is that there is no God. If there was a God, nature would obviously work for the benefit of his followers, but it doesn't. Nor does it act against those who do something against God. Pat Robertson sent a message to Dover, Pennsylvania saying: "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city". It was after the citizens of Dover voted out of office all seven members of the school board who support intelligent design. But problems and disaster happen all the time! The fact that nothing happened demonstrates that there is no God. It may happen years from now, but its either God is too far away to receive the message quickly, or he is just not there! Again the most logical answer.

There is this nice soundtrack from the documentary movie "The God Who Wasn't There" that you might be interested in listening to. It has to do with God, who if existed, is an evil stupid prick:

Because out of the many billions of planets in the universe earth just happens to have acceleration due to gravity of~9.8 meters per second^2? .

It's a simple matter of mass. What's god got to do with it? If Earth had more mass, we'd probably be a lot shorter. Less and we'd be taller most likely. We evolved to fit our surroundings, not the other way round.

I fail to see what gravity has to do with there being a God. You could have said "If there is no God, why is my shoelace undone?" Both have the same intellectual content.

Uh, there is no acceleration due to gravity.

The earth just sucks.

Because the little creatures that live on Mars are running around faster than us big clumsy humans.
Didn't you know that?

Because the earth has more mass...

Very nice exercise in kinematics. Do it, it is not difficult.
