everyone knows that the earth has cycles of hot cold, erosion and build up, so what if thats all this is? everyone is freaking out and what if it is just earths nautral cycle? should we stop it? it sucks for us, but hay its mother nature.

Well Scorpio, you are right in that the earth does have periods of warming and cooling, however, these periods tend to occur over the span of thousands, if not tens of thousands of years. The current environmental shift does not follow this pattern. We have seen significant gains in CO2 levels in the last 80 or so years, that have been scientifcally documented. With a population of 6 billion people on the planet, 300 million alone in the US, we as a species hold a significant sway to the environment. The sheer volume of green house gases (named because they allow UV energy or heat into the atmosphere but not out) that the human race outputs simply HAS to have an effect. Nature has always existed within balance in respect to life on earth, the atmosphere, etc... small changes in the past have resulted in huge variences in global climate and the human race now exists in such a capacity that nature no longer controls our survival, but vice-versa. An overabundance of CO2 results in global warming, plain and simple science... which results in a global climate shift in terms of a hundred years, not thousands as nature would have it providing for potentially adaquet time for life to adapt. Unfortunately a hundred year time period does not provide nature the time to adapt and as such, we will see species rise and fall (research polar bears, penguins, those most readily affected), larger areas of arid land (less farmland, larger deserts = reduced food production) as well as the stalling of off shore currents due to cool water melted down from the poles, all of which adds up to unfortunate circumstances. I wish it were not this way but the science adds up, we're seeing more hurricanes and tropical storms, the ice caps are indeed melting at an unprecidented rate, and global temperature is rising. If it looks like a bird, sounds like a bird, and acts like a bird... just call it a bird and move on.

While the Earth does have hot and cold cycles, the levels of carbon dioxide that are currently in the atmosphere are way above any level the earth has ever seen.
Of course, global warming is not a good thing. The effects of global warming are widespread and have a profound impact on numerous areas of the environment, usually negative. Polar bears, for instance, are losing major areas of their habitat, as the glaciers melt and thus, they are drowned, having no solid areas to walk on. Global warming has been perpetuated by humans, and is by no means natural. Let's just hope it can be reversed or at least slowed.

If it is a natural process, we may not be able to stop it from taking its course. If humans have been contributing to it, we will end up with a longer warm phase where most of the humans will be wiped off the face of the earth and earth will continue its cooling and warming cycle.

My name is Rafael Lomena. I write from Alicante (Spain). I am independent investigator on the Accelerated Global Heating and want to share with all something that can turn out from interest to fight this phenomenon.
I believe that the main cause of the Accelerated Global Heating is in the great and increasing forest fires that are whipping to the planet in the last years.
My complete report is in: http://inicia.es/de/rlv/clim.htm
If they do not understand the Spanish they can use the automatic translator that will find in the main page of site:

Thanks to all.

Everyone also knows that certain gasses (say like CO2) will have a greenhouse effect (allowing in light, preventing loss of heat). This can raise temperatures.

There is mounting evidence that such a rise in temperature can cause excess melting of the polar ice caps, leading to the stalling of the ocean currents like the Gulf stream. The ocean currents are strong drivers of climate moderation. The last time they feel something like this happened it caused an ice age.

Do you wanna risk it?

I agree completely scorpio.

This whole "Global Warming" discussion is really about climate change....something that has always happened.

It's just that the Anti-Capitalist, Anti-American, Anti-Industrialist have jumped on this topic and blown it all out proportion and the News Media keeps repeating it like it's fact.

Global warming is the result of us putting a hole in the ozone layer, so there is nothing in the way of sun's rays and it comes straight down to earth hotter than it should be. It has nothing to do with earth's cycles.

I dont care about global warming! everyone trips over it for nothing. If everyone cared about our childrens children and themselves then they would try harder to do whats best about it!
Thats that. Why stess and make a big fuss about something that didnt even happen yet! when it happens then i'll start worrying about it! ..but until then ..why bother!..God himself said he would never flood the world! thats why there's a rainbow every time after it rains.

Please just take a science class. Earth science, geology, or environmental science; please.

global warming is NOT a good thing. It has impacts, already seem, that are NOT good.
