Christianity and the acts committed by individuals or groups of people claiming Christianity?

It seems to be a widespread ignorance of people who do this, I see it every day here on Y!A. Have you read the book for yourself? Do you know that every kind of person does things against their beliefs at some point? All people can make bad choices, or become corrupt, or do things to benefit themselves. Why is this ignorance still being spread?

Gene-John - you prove my point exactly. Romans 6 says that is not true. You have to read what the Bible actually teaches, not what people do.

I don't think most people have any difficulty telling the ideal from the practical. The ideals of Christianity, humility, service and love of neighbor (even enemies) are admirable, though hard to execute. Among non-believers, the supernatural elements can be dismissed as harmless "delusions". The difficulty comes in dealing with those "Christians" who set more store by the command to "teach all nations" than to take up their crosses and follow Jesus' example of loving service. Worse are the self-proclaimed "Defenders of the Faith", the "Christians" who believe their message is so important that the compassionate injunctions can be ignored. And ultimately, the fulminating empire-builders, the Jim Bakkers, Jimmy Sweigerts and the Ted Haggards who should know better, and have even preached against the "sinful" activities they were later revealed to have engaged in, are the severest blows to Christian credibility of all.

We can see the differences. Unfortunately, the rank-and-file Christians, trying to do their best to live the gospel, don't have a chance to be seen and heard against the hypocrisy of "Christian" media stars and the mindless sheep who follow them rather than their nominal king. (No wonder Jesus advised his followers to seek the lowest place.) The world's wisdom says that those who sound too good to be true probably are, and too many Christian leaders have unfailingly proven this assertion. What is needed is leadership that tries to get it right, and followership that is more willing to share the responsibility for their faith than blindly abandon themselves to flawed human leadership.

It seems many non believers have a false belief in what Christianity is anyway. I can see from ecen some answers here that this is the case. I dont think many non believers realize that being forgiven doesnt mean someone will never or must never sin again, this is false because as long as we are in the flesh we will sin because the flesh cannot be saved (re: Romans 7:14-20) Also it seems that many think we can just ask forgiveness and be forgiven, but that isnt true either, we NEED to repent which means to admit we are wrong, be remorseful and sorry.... not just pretending.

When people DO wicked things in God's name, they are certianly not reptenant, and thus not forgiven.. so really if they just look at the evil someone does, test it to see if they think God is fine with it or if the person knows it's wrong and is sorry they do it.

because, theres also a difference between repenting your sins, and repenting and repeating your sins. many christians think they can ask god for forgiveness over and over, as a form of "life insurrance" and then go back committing those sins. hypocracy isnt very highly looked upon.

we get that christians can make bad choices too, but they shouldnt be constantly making them, or making them more-so then non-believers.

Yeah I'm not following you either. It's the religion itself that gives people the incentive to commit those acts. Since they can all be forgiven, what's to stop them? All you have to do is say "Oops! I'm sorry" and all is erased in the eyes of God. Religion is a REALLY sick joke!
