This can be a behavioral issue. Some dogs get bored and take the boredom out on themselves. Make sure the dog is being very well exercised every day. Turning a dog out into the yard and expecting him to entertain himself doesn't count. Also, sometimes dogs can become fixated on something (like a spot of light on the carpet, etc.) Tails can be easily fixated on because the tail can be reached, but barely and it's good fun to try to chase the tail and catch it. It could in some cases turn into more serious chewing. Again, i'd make sure the dog was very well exercised. If i needed time for the wound to heal i might try an elizabethan collar until the temptation to lick and chew the open wound subsided.

My dogs as a difficulty very a lot the same as your dogs. merely look into her wounds, keep them sparkling and bandaged and attempt to surrender the licking and the chewing in any respect expenditures in case you may. I appeared up the indicators with my dogs and it sounded as in spite of the undeniable fact that she had some thing like warm Spot. yet after per week she endured to lick and the injuries were getting worse. She in effortless words did this on her the front paws no the position else. So we took her into the vet, the vet took a pattern of the exterior contained in the area to work out if some thing had gotten on there and a pattern of her saliva to work out if there develop into some thing contained in the saliva that develop into causing her epidermis to react this way. each and everything got here decrease back one hundred% universal. The vet stated that the in effortless words element left that it could be develop right into a fearful habit. This got here about 4 years in the past. And nevertheless to in the present day she will be able to often times lick the front paws till they're raw and bleeding. The vets recommended treatment develop into to sparkling with merely water the contaminated area, and then get somewhat alcohol or peroxide (i hit upon peroxide works more beneficial because it doesn't sting), and sparkling the open parts of the wound. positioned some triple antibiotic cream instantaneous and go away it open till it truly is soaked by skill of the exterior yet do no longer enable the dogs lick it!! and then bandage it up. do no longer enable your dogs tear off the bandage. Repeat the approach for some days and the injuries will heal up. in spite of the undeniable fact that, it is in the adventure that your dogs has the same difficulty mine does. It honestly does sound like warm spot in spite of the undeniable fact that, use a search for engine and skim up about it rather to work out in the adventure that your dogs has more beneficial indicators.... yet finally there isn't any thanks to really tell till your dogs is appeared at by technique of a vet. i desire this helps!

I would definitly be concerned. When it's not bleeding or there are no open sores put something on the tip of his tail to where he would learn his lesson. For example, hot sauce or the "no nail bite" polish. If that doesn't work and you see he is not doing it out of habit then I would definitly take him to the vet.

If it isn't a flea or insect bite, it could be a skin condition (rash, eczema) or even very dry, itchy skin. Something is bothering him. Inspect the tail thoroughly and look for bites or rough spots. Wash and dry the tail thoroughly and see if his biting continues. If so, take him to the vet for a consultation.

Yes, something is definitely wrong. It could be fleas eating on his tail or could be the start of mange, if he has been around other dogs that have it. Take him to your vet immediately. It could be serious. Good Luck!

Sounds like it's itchy to him, I'd call the vet, it's going to get really painful if he keeps it up.

Don't put hot sauce on, IS SHE NUTS?
That would be cruel!
