Well worth the money. I bought one off EBay 2 years ago and the best investment I made yet. I have a Littermaid and is well worth it. One suggestion is use a 3 gallon waste basket liner inside of the plastic tray that comes with it. It saves you money and time and is real easy to to take care of when your in a rush. Also the smell is gone too. One thing you are going to have to use a NAME BRAND litter none of the cheap store ones. They don't clump as fast and as well as name brand ones. But if I were you invest in it you are not going to see how you lived without one. Believe me I have two cats and I empty mine out three times a week. Just grab a bag out of the container and throw it away and your done.

I have three cats and it is absolutely worth the money. For a few weeks after I got it, they would hang around and watch it clean the litter, as if it were their version of TV! After a while they didn't even pay attention any more. I lined the box with several layers of plastic grocery bags, so when it was full, every three days or so, I just gathered up the ends of the bag and tied it together to dispose of it in the regular trash. It was soo convenient! But I was warned that I would have problems with it. I think I returned the first one, and the second one worked great. The cats have moved outside now that the litter of puppies have taken over the house, but I still have the pan and will use it again.

Mine came with a small rug that catches most of the litter that clings to their feet, but it isn't any worse than with a regular box. If you have a problem with them tracking the litter elsewhere, make it impossible for them to leave the box without walking across the carpet strip by enclosing the space with barriers. Stacks of toilet paper will work fine, and you can remove them one at a time until they leave the box and walk only on the carpet.

I will say that my LitterMaid is just fine. At first, my male cat didn't like it but it didn't take him long to figure out how much time he had before the scooper started! :) I like it because i tend to travel a lot and it is most certainly a comfort knowing that his litter is taken care of while I am away. I usually don't have to change the compartment for about a week...depending on how much he uses it. When the automatic scraper comes on, he will run to try to watch it move. I don't know why he continues to do this even after a year or so later, but it must amaze him to some extent! :) I say, if you have two cats, that might pose a little of a problem. But try it and see what happens. If not, you can always take it back and go back to the old litterbox.

Good luck:)

It worked for about a week, then it jammed and cracked a gear. If you are using it, line the plastic containers they give you with a plastic bag to save money, and use ULTRA great clumping litter. I mean it has to absorb fast or it will jam.
---or you could do what I ended up doing. The litter box is in my bathroom. I have the flushable kind of litter(but to be safe I still only flush the turds not the pee). Everymorning I scoop the pee into my lidded garbage can, and flush the turds. I empty the trash can everyweek, and complety scrub down the litter pan every month. I have no smell, and I always clean it becuase..well you have to go to the bathroom, and it's right there...

automatic cat boxes can be a nice solution, but some cats are fearful of them and will have accidents outside of the box which is hard to stop them if not caught soon enough because it becomes a bad habit. The other problem is that depending on where the cat goes the clay litter clumps up and sticks where the sweep cannot get to it. Then you have to manually scrape the goo out of th sweep.

NO, NO, NO, NO! They are a pain in the butt. You may not have to clean out the box as often, but when you do it is much more of a hassle. I've tried every which way to find the least hassle and the way I've found is to just use a traditional cat box with scoopable litter and have a Liter Locker type thing (like a diaper genie for kids) next to it and scoop a couple time a day.

YES!! I also have two cats- and since I'm gone all day and the B/F is often out of state, the automatic box is perfect for our boys. The last thing I want to do when I get home is scoop cat "presents"- I'd rather play with the cats instead.

We have a littermaid, now we have a PurrForma. Great machines.

My son bought one an it didn't work at all. Then he had to haul it all the way back for a refund.
If you have 2 cats and 1 litter box, you need to change the litter every day. I sympathize with you because we have 2 kittens also. Just give yourself a hug for taking care of it properly. I know you would hate it if you had to use an incredibly disgusting bathroom all the time.

I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes. I scoop them out twice a day and once a week, I empty them completely out, scrub them with hot soapy water, then put new litter in. Those automatic ones are for lazy people. It's part of your responsibilities of a being a pet owner.

Yes they are. I have one cat and it works perfectly. You have to perform maintenance (cleaning) every 1-2 months but that's a small price to pay for not touching litter. Make sure you use premium clumping litter or you'll have problems.
