Why are you asking this question?!?! Why would you change your name to some guys name if you aren't married? What is the point of that? You take on your husband's name after joining in a legal contract that binds the 2 of you together and you are now family. Have you made that legal commitment? If you have not, why would you go through the steps of changing your name? If he is not willing to marry you, it seems very foolish to change your name. This just sounds ridiculous to me. You are setting yourself up for disappointment.
****I received an annonymous comment from someone and I thought that I should clarify my "opinion." The reason I thought that this sounded rediculous was because it seemed like your guy is stringing you along. Why would he be ok with you taking on his name but not he is not marrying you? What is the point if he is not willing to just go all of the way? I wasn't being judgemental towards you. I just didn't understand why you would put yourself in this situation. You are going to get hurt. and when/if the relationship ends, your stuck with the hassel of changing your name again.
And seriously now...how could someone possible enjoy being raped? My best friend in high school was raped and there was no joy that came from the experience. And honestly, I think that the aftermath is almost worse then the rape itself. ***

You may want to contact the Social Security office in your town. I recently got married and my wife had to provide a marriage certificate to change her last name. I assume the law varies by state, and without knowing where you live, no one on here will be able to help you.

Nope, you can change your name at any time. You just need to fill out some paper work, file it with the government and give them money for processing fees.

No, you can change your WHOLE name if you want to. Just go to your local courthouse or call them, and a judge has to sign off on it, however... why Not wait till you are married to him?
