People believe in religion because other people believe in religion. They are followers....they are not much different from group to group they have the need to be accepted by their group and conform their mind to what they should believe. They fall into whatever group they go with then they close down their brain anything that goes against what the group says cannot possibly be right because if they give pause to consider that someone else may have the right answer and that they are wrong...well that just can't be. What they believe is the right and the only thing that one should believe. They no longer see that what they believe is just as ridiculous to outsiders as what outsiders see their beliefs as. It's all just an attempt to belong. An attempt to explain what this life that we all go through.

It is a thing about comfort. People will refuse to believe that there is nothing after death, that it is a bleak void, so they turn to a religion.
By believing in a religion it manifests into something good and bad.
People will die, and fights will come alive even between the greatest of friends, in the name of whatever religion. People don't like to be wrong. But also it brings a sense of unity to a nation.
Personally, I don't believe in hell, I believe it was a part of religion to make you convert by striking fear and threats into your heart. I think if your a honest, and good person you will reap the rewards- not always- and let your own spirit be at rest rather than God striking you down- you create your own downfall.

You are all mixed up me old sock,the Bible rarely talks about people going to heaven,yes Jesus invited some of human kind to rule with him from his heavenly throne , and that's it.end of that matter.NOTE in teaching all how and what basically to pray for he focused on having Gods WILL done on earth as in heaven,notice ON EARTH. Religions pump the hope to ALL of a mysterious heavenly life. In the Greek scriptures those people all desired an earthly life under the heavenly hoped for Kingdom .Look at that practical prayer again ,study it ,there is so much more.

Religion is nothing more than a set of ideas that govern the way a person lives their life. Examples of religions are:
Islam
Christianity;
Judaism;
Hinduism;
Taoism;
Scientology;
Atheism;
Jehovah Wittness
There are, of course, many more but they all fit the definition of religion. And most of them are in conflict with each other. Does that surprise you? It shouldn't.
The question is which one is correct? Which one best explains the orgins of the human race and who we are? What happens after we die? Are we held responsible for the things that we do in our lives?
Christians have one answer. Atheists have another. Muslims yet another. Can they all be correct? No. They are in such conflict that they cannot all be correct. Are any of them correct in their entirity? No. We are imperfect. We often can't understand why we do certain things; how can we have a perfect understanding of the infinite?
This may not be the answer to your question but I think that it adequately meets the question that you asked.

The only thing religion does for anyone is holodays. You believe in afterlife managers with the same reason you'd believe in santa, because you were told to. Stories are told to you, "facts" are givin, the only difference is, at an early age, your told santa doesn't exist, while later when you've learned that nothing from beyond is helpin in any way shape or form, then you get people telling you religion isn't real.

Just a simple answer. If it were not for religion, you would still be illiterate and not have been able to write the above question. It was Christianity who started schools. The first printed book by the first printing machine was a religious book. A German Bible. And there are too many other things to mention that won't be here today if there were no religion.

I don't believe in religion, I believe in Jesus. He is the one who said "I am the way, the truth, and the life." He's the one who said, "None may come to the Father except through the Son."
