I have an adorable Chihuahua that I've had for almost 9 years now. She's never shed a lot of her hair until recently. I've been giving her 3 baths a day to see if I can stop some of the shedding, but no it just seems to make it worse. I called the Vet and they said it was normal, but I just want to know if there's a way that I can get her to stop shedding so much. I'm getting tired of vacuuming my rug every 10 minutes. I thought seriously about taking her to the Doggie Parlor and getting her hair shaved off or something, but honestly she would look like a rat and never come out from under the bed. Any ideas here?

if the shedding is recent i would have the dog checked for thyroid issues. older dogs can often start to have thyroid problems and losing hair can be one sign. if there's not a medical reason i might try 'missing link'. I've never used it but I've had other people tell me it really helped with their shedding problems.

You are WAY over bathing her. Have you changed her diet?
Is she under some kind of stress?
It may be a good idea to take her to the vet for a blood work up to be sure there is nothing going on, especially if she is shedding in spots & not all over....
But, STOP giving her so many baths. That can really dry her skin out...
Also, sit down with her in the evenings & brush her. Not agressively, just while you watch t.v.brush her. It will be relaxing for both of you if she is stressed....

1) Bathing her that much is bad for her skin.
2) You said you "called" the vet. Have you taken her in for a check up to make sure all is well?
3) Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. 3 baths a day????? No wonder she is shedding!! Her skin is probably very dry.

Instead of bathing her constantly, here's an idea.....BRUSH her!!

And you vacuum your rug EVERY 10 minutes??? Or are you just exaggerating to prove a point?

Instead of bathing her 3 times a day and vacuuming every ten minutes just brush her a few times a day and that should get the loose shedding hairs so they don't fall onto your carpet.

Try adding one teaspoon of cod liver oil to her food. You can buy it at most drug stores. This nourishes the dog's coat and cuts down on shedding, but will take a couple of weeks to be effective. Also, don't bathe her so much, as it is bad for her skin.
