First, make sure your cat has an alternative. Cats like high places, and they're curious. They like to have a nice vantage point. My cat's happens to be the back of the recliner, but every cat is different. You can buy or build a cat tree, which can also double as a scratching post, to give your cat a place to hang out. Also, he might just want attention-- play with him, let him use up his energy in more productive ways.
As for keeping your cat off of things, I use clear shelf paper, sticky side up. Cats dislike the feeling on their paws, and will eventually learn to not go up there. If you happen to catch them in the act, and don't want to spray them, a loud sound will also startle them enough to get them off. I hear people use cans filled with pennies-- toss it in their direction, or give it a good shake. Cats don't like the noise.

This sounds like an overactive and highly bored kitty. Invest in some toys or consider adopting another kitty to keep him company.
There are may things you can do to deter cats.........Put double sided tape on top of your monitor as cats hate anything that will stick to them........the scent of orange or orange peels are also very annoying to cats so this Christmas when you eat all those mandarin oranges save the peels and place them on ledges and places up high to keep your cat away as well there are orange sprays (to be bought at a pet store only) that you can use..........cats also don't like unstable or noisy surfaces so try booby trapping the areas below the curtain with bits of crumpled tin foil or stuffed animals that make walking across them difficult.

Hi there...for when you are not able to watch the cat and mist it away consider using double sided sticky tape to prevent horizontal surface surfing and on all other surfaces you wish to discourage such as the monitor and curtains. Cats dislike having their paws stuck to the tape and eventually will learn to avoid areas which are unpleasant.
Consider a tall cat tree. Cats like to be up high to observe everything around them. This will encourage climbing here rather than everywhere else as well.

You have to say NO when he does it and give him an alternative, show him what is a good game that HE likes and he is allowed to do, right away. But also keep in mind that this behaviour is in the kitten's nature. Be patient, when he is older than 1 year, and especially if he is neutered, he'll calm down, he will have explored everything and he will be a mature adult cat, lying around on the couches all day!

the cat needs something tall that is made for him to climb on, try one of the 7 ft carpet play gyms for cats, if he has his own maybe he will stop searching the tallest places in the house. good luck, if you want the cat to stay away from an item you can get some stuff called sour apple from a pet shop they don't like the taste or smell and will stay away from the area.

You can TRY the spray bottle etc. I've found with my cat that she knows she's not supposed to jump on the dining room table. She doesn't do it when we are there. When we go out she does pretty much what she wants. So get used to it.
