It depends. Cold usually lasts for about one week depending on the severity. As for me, whenever I get a cold, I tend to drink LOTS of water and I never take any medication. Occasionally, I do take a pill of Advil if my symptoms worsens but that's it. =)

If it's really a cold, medicine won't work. You can take something to ease the symptoms immediately. If you have a cough that persists for more than a week or if your chest becomes very congested, it may not be a cold but a chest infection. In that case get help fast.

since a cold has no cure, the medicine you take is to help with the symptoms of the cold only. So, whenever you think you need the medicine, take it!! It will help u feel better!! Dont forget, lots of fluids and rest. Feel better!!

I would try to get lots of rest, drink lots of liquids and get Vitamin C. If the cold hasn't gone away in two - three days and starts to get worse, I would start taking medication .
