There is only one thing that should be kept in mind when you are dying your hair brown...ALL brown shades tend to look darker than the pictures on the package. I have found this with all manufacturers from Nice 'n Easy to L'Oreal, and everything in between.

Pick a shade of brown that looks a couple of tones lighter than what you ultimately want to achieve. It will end up developing almost exactly as you want.

Also, keep your colour from fading by using shampoos for your specific colour. There are a few makers out there, but I like John Frieda Brilliant Brunette the best.

It might have saved you on money once but in the long run it could cost ya double time, as where you don't know the effects that you are doing to your hair because you are not educated on what those chemicals can do, and the color buildup can cause problems as well. So my advise to you is that if you are one to change your color offten then go to a proffesional, but if you are just doing a root touch-up then get one with a little bit of warmth in it to counteract the green and for the first twenty min. just do the new growth, the last five to ten min. add about an ounce of conditioner to the color and put through the rest of the hair. The biggest problem with at home colors is that they manufactures can put whatever they wnat in those bottles, so just becarefull, cuz color correction can be very expensive to fix, mainly cuz it can be prevented.

yip i do it all the time i recently went from blonde to brunette at home, and i too have really thick hair .There's just a couple of things u need to remember
1. make sure u do a strand test believe me it saves time and effort to try and fix the colour if u get it wrong(i know its a a pain when u r desperate to just do it .
2. make sure u have enough dye , if u have thick hair like me then if its possible by two of the dye's its better to have too much than too little .
3Make sure u cover it all , be certain the hair is thoroughly covered with the dye
4.Make sure after that u use a good conditioner for the next couple of days

Its perfectly safe. Get someone to help with the back then you dont miss bits. Make up remover wipes will get off any dye you get on your neck.
By the way, if youre dying from a natural colour thats ok, but if your hair is already dyed blonde dont try another colour on top without a strand test. I did that once an it ended up dark green!

Yes it's safe. I've dyed my hair at home and the only concern you really have is cover up the space you'll be working in. if the dye gets on anything it's most likely permanent so make sure you put some plastic or newspaper down. Just follow the directions. it's real easy. just make sure all your hair is saturated and wait the time the box tells you to before you rinse!

As a stylist, I will tell you box color is probably not the best choice for anyones hair but people do it.
Since you have thick hair, you should use at least 2 boxes of color to completely saturate your hair. There's so many women I have seen that miss coloring big sections of hair when they do it at home.
You also take a chance of having the color turn into something you weren't looking for.

However, I would suggest instead of doing it yourself & if you want to save money you can check out your local beauty school. Have it done there instead.

Yes it is safe, I have been dying my hair for years at home. Make sure you get a good quality hair dye, and if you want it to look natural a kit that contains hair dye and highlights is best, I use Loreal Colour Experte, and people often think it's my natural colour. As said before, get a friend to do it that has done before and use vaseline around your hairline to avoid staining, if you do get some on your skin a little bit of nail polish remover on a cotton swab works wonders! If you have a boyfriend (and trust him) get him to do it for you, they tend to be extremely careful and thorough cus they don't want to make a mistake and have you looking bad!

Good Luck!

I'm studying hair, and i still dye mine myself, if your hair is thick, i would advise that you do make sure that you buy enough product to cover all of your hair, its easy to think that will be enough, i would still recommend a skin test tho as you can have an allergic reaction to hair dye, people have become ill if the dye doesn't suit them. So long as your hair isn't blond you cant go wrong, if it is then don't put a brown dye on, it will go green.... I hope this helps!!!

It's totally safe just pick out whatever color you want at the store. I color my hair all the time that way because I love doing it and it's alot cheaper. Have fun and if it seems a bit much right after it's done it will wear off in a couple of days. Looks really bright at first will fade after about a week.

You can do but it is best not to beacuse the shop bought colours tend to turn out differently to how they look, and because it had previously been blonde some products especially permenant could react with the bleach underneath, I see disasters every week so if you can pay a salon then it may save you a lot of money in the long run
