Usually to receive a settlement in any injury case you have to suffer a permanent injury ex] permanent disfigurement or permanent pain. Call a lawyer to verify.

P.S. count your blessings, me and my business partner/best friend were snowmobiling in norther Michigan when he was hit by a plow truck. He died right there in front of me leaving behind a wife and kids, No settlement only tragedy.

You do realize that no matter what, your BF would be in the wrong, even if the old man was jaywalking right?

Pedestrians always have the right of way, even if they are jaywalking.

Talk to a lawyer, as this is going to be a very tough fight on your bf's part. ITs going to be a factor weighed on how much fault it was on your BF's part and the old man's part (like 60% your BF and 40% the old man) or 50/50 and you may never get medical bills recovered.
