My son had the same thing and withen a week, he was talking normally. It takes some time to get used to it but you will. Get some wax for any bumpy parts of the braces to fix any sores you may get. also, rinse really well after eating. its MORE embarrassing to have that pesky food stuck in the brace. I hope you feel better soon. just know, everyone who gets braces has this same trouble. chin up becuase you will have a lovely smile after all said and done. (((((HUG)))))

i think of the common for braces is eighteen months. It kinda hurts in specific circumstances whilst a thicker cord is placed on or there tightened. If a bracket falls off, do no longer difficulty, i've got swallowed plenty! I nonetheless have mine, you will finally end up going each 6 weeks to alter the cord and or elastics (colored issues) I had a war before everything biting into meals, and used to interrupt issues as much as devour it.

Practice reading aloud in your room. It won't really affect your speech as much as you think. And you can get used to speaking with them in by practicing. If you didn't yet, be sure to get some dental "wax" to put over the wires where they may be rubbing the inside of your lips and mouth raw. This is most likely what will make you talk funny, if it is hurting you and you try to hold your mouth in a way so it won't rub.

Just ignore the fools on here!
It took me a few weeks to really get back to normal and you have my sympathy cos its not nice wearing a brace but it will get easier! Just remember, that after your tracks come off, to wear the temporary retainer, that they will no doubt give you for an additional few more months. I didn't bother with my 2nd retainer so much and really wish I had cos my teeth moved back slightly!
You'll be fine, just focus on the end result!!

I just got braces today too! it's the strangest feeling. I'm having a difficult time right now -trying to eat lunch. I hear it takes a couple days to get used to them and then it gets better. Good for you on getting braces!

It won't last long. Your mouth will soon get used to it. My daughter has both top and bottom braces and it took abut a week for her to regain proper speech.

Its really hard at first, but you will get used to it. Dont belive that people say it will be affected for all the time you wear them... just a few days. The more you talk the faster you get used to it.

the speech probelm lasts until you become confortable with the thing in your mouth. If you actually wear it enough you will develop and just fine within a week or two.
