The Episcopal Church is the same as The Anglican Church. It was formed when King Henry VIII was denied a divorce from the Roman Catholic Pope. Of all the Protestant religions, it is the one that is most similar to Roman Catholicism.
There are a few obvious differences -- most notably that they do not recognize the power of the Pope and they allow divorce. There are those who consider the Anglican Church to be a catholic church -- just not Roman Catholic.

My friend is Catholic and calls Episcopalians "Diet Catholics". :)
They are very similar (though Episcopalians fall in the category of Protestants). They tend to be considered the middle ground between Catholics and Protestants. The main differences between them and Catholics are the priests are allowed to marry and you can have female priests in the Episcopal church.

Episcopalian is a form of Protestantism, so it, by definition is not Catholic.
The Catholic church is the original Christian church, the first organized Christian establishment who collected and put together, translated, and revised the bible.
Protestantism formed around 400-500 years ago splitting away from the original Christian Catholic church with the rebellion of Luther and
King Henry the VIII who wanted to divorce his wives.
All sects coming out of Protestantism are branched out of that line of the "Church of England" or Anglocan church.
Puritans and Quakers (tiny communities of cult-like Christians in England) came to America and formed all different kinds of new Christian sects.
Episcopalian is said to be the closest Protestant sect to Catholocism.
However, they allow Women Priests and they are of course not under the Pope or the Vatican.
All Catholic Churches are run under the guidlines of the Vatican and the Pope.
All Protestant churches are independent of one another.
