Lower calories, lower fat, and higher fiber are one way of doing it. Fresh veggies are guiltless and a way to fill up. Some occasional meats that are lower in overall impact are chicken, fish, or prawns (grilled not fried). Don't get fooled by "oven-ready" products that are already breaded. You could actually "deep-fry" (which I almost never do) in Canola and towel off the excess oil and come out with less fat than most oven-ready products. 94% fat-free popcorn is a good snack (Orville Redenbachers makes one like that butter-flavored). I guess the main thing to remember is to just eat less than you were or/and cut out in between snacking. I don't think denying yourself whole food groups is ever going to work out long term.

Grapefruits and cabbage actually help burn calories. Also make sure you drink a LOT of water! Water gives you the sensation of being full so that you eat less.
