I am a first time buyer and want to get a good deal for a really good camera.
I have researched online and am about to buy the Fuji Finepix F30 based on the price, decenent megapixel, large LCD, up to 3200 ISO, and rechargeable battery.
Here is the cnet.com review:

Can you find a camera better? I like to think I am pretty good at finding good deals - but I have never purchased or owned a digital camera before - and I would love to be shown a better deal! As this is the main Christmas gift and I don't want it to flop.

Nope. No help needed. You've found the best one. There's a slightly new version out called the F31fd, which has a face detection algorithm that helps it to choose the focus and metering point, but probably not worth the extra price. The jury's still out on this one.
If you want to spend less, you can also look at the F20. It has the same lens, senor and image processing, but fewer manual modes and a lower resolution LCD. But- you can get it really cheap. I saw NewEgg had it for $175, and that included an xD card as well as a case.
Buy the F30. It has truly top notch image quality, well made and the ONLY compact camera with high ISO capability. The ISO3200 is too noisy for normal use, but the ISO1600 is quite usable and the ISO800 is practically clean. 2-3 stops better than any other compact digicam.
tips: for outdoor shots, it tends to let the highlights saturate in favor of brightening up faces. Many users prefer to dial in -1/3 or -2/3 exposure compensation so that the highlights don't get clipped. The average and multi metering modes do have very different result in some situations. Play with them and figure out which works best for your. Also- the F20/F30 shows a bit of purple fringing at bright/dark borders, such as tree leaves. Put it in aperture priority auto and close down the lens a bit to reduce the effect for these outdoor shots.

Hi, I am been hunting around for digital cameras too. Well after some searching on the web and visiting the shops in the mall I have come to a few choices:
1) Fujifine pix F30/F31 with the latter with the face detection function. Well I was pretty tempted to get this however there is 1 setback which I felt that I must really consider it.
a) Its max resolution is 6 mega pixels.
2) Canon Powershot SD800IS (wide angle lens)
Not much complaint though except ISO max is only 1600
3) Canon Powershot SD900
Cool 10MP camera with Titanium body however main setback is without optical Image stabiliser.
4) Olympus Mju 1000
Highest ISO settings up to 6400 (with limitation~up to 3MP)
However much noises observe when trying to take a picture in the dark room.
Well to me this will be my 3rd Digicam in my possession so I hope to get one that enables me to take pictures relatively easily in all lighting conditions.
My hunch is either I will go for Fuji F31 or Canon SD800IS which comes with the face detection technology and an acceptable ISO settings 3200/1600 (since going beyond ISO800 will produce noises in ur pictures).

Well, I think the F30 is a very good little camera (especially for low-light, handheld shots without a flash).
It's THE compact to beat, especially for high ISO, low-light photography. But don't expect to get any decent shots using ISO 3200...(ISO 800, even 1600, but not higher).
There have been a few complaints regarding it's outdoor shots, only in high contrast situations though (above average levels of CA)...but apparantly you can overcome this by closing the aperture a little. Any bad CA (purple fringing) can easily be fixed via your photo editor.
It's not perfect though...my only niggle is, it's missing a viewfinder and histogram, and you can't use aperture AND shutter priority at the same time, only either or.
But I am definitely considering it myself (or the newer F31 fd) just for it's high ISO, low-light capability alone.
And it has an amazing battery life of up to 580 shots!
I'm sure you will love it (or the F31 fd).

Definitely virtual digital camera. It consistently has larger lens than digital camera telephone. Number of Mpix is much less principal than lens, consider. Digital digital camera has additionally larger constructed-in application than digital camera telephone.
