Alcohol is really hit or miss, unless you know the person. How about a gift card to a bookstore?

It's a lovely thought if you know her personal tastes. Probably better off probing into what kind of hobbies the teacher has and giving a gift certificate so that she could use towards that...whatever it is. The children usually know the interests of the teacher. But champagne...if she's not a drinker or perhaps has another reason for not liking champagne, you really aren't considering her likes and dislikes and this really is about showing her your appreciation for her teaching your son, isn't it????

Takes some time and ask around. Otherwise, give some money to her favorite charity in her name. That is always thoughtful.

Mumm Cordon Rouge is a very reliable, moderately priced champagne. Most champagne drinkers will prefer Mumm over something like Veuve Cliquot. Moet & Chandon is also very good (the Brut is nice, the Whitestar is a bit cheap and nasty).

get her something she wouldn't normally get for herself.

Things like engraved pictures and rememberances are nice, but over the course of her career she has probably received thousands of things like that and it will either end up in a box or in the rubbish eventually.

How about a gift certificate to a spa or salon? something that she can go experience and remember or enjoy.

My wife is a teacher and she is only 28. She already has a large collection of cute little gifts and pictures and dodads of various kinds that kids and parents have given to her. I can't imagine the garage full of stuff we will have by the time she is ready to retire!

I really dont think that would be a good gift for a teacher. Have you considered an engraved gift that they will be able to cherish forever.
